This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an SEO Manager based in the United States.
As an SEO Manager, you will take ownership of the organic search strategy and technical SEO standards across a portfolio of websites serving home service businesses. Working closely with web development and SEO specialists, you will oversee website architecture, technical optimizations, and content strategies. You will also play a key role in adapting SEO strategies to the evolving landscape of AI-powered search. This position combines strategic leadership with hands-on expertise, offering significant autonomy and the opportunity to shape processes across multiple websites. You will lead a small, dedicated team while ensuring consistent quality, performance, and client satisfaction.
Accountabilities
• Own and continuously improve website architecture, URL structures, technical SEO standards, internal linking, and structured data across the entire client portfolio.
• Define and manage the SEO roadmap, identifying scalable improvements and collaborating with web development teams to test and implement changes across multiple websites.
• Develop and maintain standardized SEO processes for client onboarding, website launches, migrations, content production, and performance reporting.
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows through templates, automation, and AI-assisted tools, ensuring human review and quality control for all deliverables.
• Oversee website launches and migrations, including URL mapping, redirect strategies, technical validation, and post-launch performance monitoring.
• Develop strategies to improve visibility across traditional search engines and AI-powered platforms, including Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini.
• Ensure accurate performance tracking through Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, and call-tracking solutions, connecting organic performance to qualified leads and conversions.
• Lead and mentor a small team of SEO specialists, establishing clear objectives, reviewing deliverables, delegating responsibilities, and supporting professional development.
• Monitor key performance indicators, including organic leads, booked jobs, local search visibility, AI citations, technical SEO health, Core Web Vitals, and client retention.
• Communicate SEO performance and strategic recommendations clearly to clients through monthly reporting, client reviews, and prospect audits.
Requirements:
• At least 5 years of hands-on SEO experience, including agency experience managing multiple clients and websites simultaneously.
• At least 2 years of experience leading, supervising, or managing SEO professionals.
• Strong technical SEO expertise, including website architecture, site migrations, redirects, Core Web Vitals, structured data, internal linking, crawlability, and indexation management.
• Proven experience in local SEO for multi-location or service-area businesses, including Google Business Profile optimization, local citations, and online reputation management.
• Demonstrated ability to build scalable SEO processes, establish operational standards, and implement improvements across large website portfolios.
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and WordPress, with the ability to collaborate effectively with web development teams.
• Hands-on experience with SEO and analytics tools, including SEMrush or Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4, and Google Tag Manager.
• Familiarity with testing and monitoring organic visibility across AI-powered search platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions and translate performance insights into actionable strategies.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and maintain high-quality standards.
• Effective leadership, coaching, and communication skills, combined with the ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes.
• A proactive, adaptable, and continuous-improvement mindset, with a preference for transparency, accountability, and practical solutions.
Nice to have:
• Experience with SEO for home services businesses, particularly HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and drain or sewer contractors.
• Understanding of contractor lead-generation economics, including inbound calls, booked jobs, and average transaction value.
• Experience coordinating SEO landing pages, paid search campaigns, and cross-channel attribution strategies.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted SEO workflows and opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation.
Benefits:
• Competitive salary.
• Benefits package.
• 401(k) retirement plan.
• Significant autonomy and ownership over SEO strategy, standards, and roadmap development.
• The opportunity to shape and improve processes across an extensive portfolio of websites.
• A dynamic environment with ongoing challenges involving search algorithm updates, AI-powered search, new markets, and website launches.
• The opportunity to lead a focused team and influence the quality and performance of multiple client projects.
