Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Oracle Database Administrator based in United States.

We are seeking an experienced database professional to lead the strategy, architecture, and ongoing evolution of a complex Oracle environment. In this senior individual contributor role, you will shape technical standards and drive improvements in performance, security, reliability, automation, and cloud adoption. You will take ownership of critical production systems while guiding modernization initiatives and reducing technical debt. Working closely with engineering, product, and external service partners, you will strengthen operational resilience and database governance. This is an opportunity to influence long-term technical direction, mentor colleagues, and build scalable practices across a growing technology environment.

Accountabilities:

• Define database architecture standards and guide technical decisions across products and platforms.

• Own the multi-year roadmap for database capacity, technical debt, and modernization.

• Evaluate database technologies and cloud services based on reliability, scalability, security, and cost.

• Provide senior technical ownership and escalation support for production and non-production Oracle environments.

• Lead performance tuning, SQL optimization, query analysis, capacity planning, and complex troubleshooting.

• Improve monitoring, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery practices.

• Lead root-cause analyses for significant incidents and participate in a shared on-call rotation.

• Establish practical standards for database architecture, design, SQL development, documentation, and operations.

• Review major schema changes, migrations, procedural objects, and database designs in collaboration with engineering teams.

• Develop modernization strategies for the existing Oracle environment, evaluating Oracle on AWS, cloud-native services, and alternative database platforms.

• Automate database administration, deployment, monitoring, testing, and maintenance to reduce manual work and operational complexity.

• Mentor engineers on relational database design, SQL performance, and database best practices; create reusable documentation, training, and technical patterns.

• Strengthen internal database capabilities and coordinate responsibilities, knowledge sharing, and escalation procedures with the managed services provider.

• Support data pipelines, client conversions, migrations, and major product initiatives, helping teams deliver secure and efficient data movement.

• Manage the technical relationship with the database services provider, defining responsibilities, service expectations, escalation paths, and SLAs while assessing service quality.

• Evaluate database-related vendors, technologies, and services as needed.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of Oracle database administration experience supporting complex production environments.

• Advanced expertise in Oracle performance tuning, SQL optimization, and query-plan analysis.

• Strong knowledge of Oracle technologies, including RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, ASM, Exadata, and partitioning.

• Working familiarity with PL/SQL, including the ability to review, troubleshoot, and advise on database-resident code.

• Strong relational database architecture, design, and data-modeling skills.

• Experience with backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery planning and testing.

• Knowledge of database security, auditing, access management, and compliance-oriented environments such as PCI.

• Ability to diagnose complex performance and reliability issues across applications and database infrastructure.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, prioritization, and mentoring skills, with the ability to make technical risks and recommendations clear to different stakeholders.

• A proactive, ownership-oriented approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement, automation, and knowledge sharing.

• Pragmatism when modernizing mature systems, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term architectural improvements.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience developing or executing Oracle modernization and cloud migration strategies.

• Experience with Oracle workloads in AWS, including Oracle DB@AWS.

• Familiarity with AWS RDS, Aurora, or other cloud-native database technologies.

• Ability to assess which workloads should remain on Oracle and which may be suitable for alternative database platforms.

• Experience with data pipeline and transformation technologies.

• Familiarity with Datadog or comparable database monitoring and observability platforms.

• Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or an equivalent Oracle certification.

• Experience with SaaS, transaction-intensive, fundraising, payment, financial, or other mission-critical software platforms.

• Background in a small or mid-sized technology organization where senior technical contributors work across functional boundaries.

• Experience automating database administration, monitoring, deployment, or operational processes.

Benefits:

• Annual salary of $140,000–$150,000 for a well-qualified candidate.

• Remote working arrangement, with the option to work hybrid or in-office depending on individual preference and location.

• Full-time employment.

• Limited travel, generally fewer than five trips per year for in-person team, planning, or company meetings.

• Opportunity to shape database strategy and modernization while working on mission-critical technology.

• Collaborative environment with opportunities to mentor colleagues and strengthen shared technical capabilities.
