Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Project Manager 1 - Substation (STATCOM) based in the United States.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead utility-scale STATCOM and E-STATCOM projects from initial planning through commissioning and closeout. This role oversees complex power-system projects, ensuring delivery aligns with contractual commitments, budgets, schedules, quality standards, and utility requirements. You will coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, equipment suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. The position combines strategic project planning, commercial oversight, resource management, and hands-on execution coordination. You will play a central role in managing critical interfaces and resolving delivery challenges while maintaining strong client relationships. This is an opportunity to contribute to major power infrastructure projects within a collaborative, technically driven environment.

Accountabilities

As Project Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating project execution, contract administration, planning, and resource management while ensuring alignment with established project management processes and client expectations. Key responsibilities include:

• Lead project initiation, integrated planning, execution, monitoring, change control, and closeout.

• Develop and maintain project execution plans, scope baselines, work breakdown structures, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, communication plans, risk registers, and decision and action logs.

• Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, quality, safety, and client activities, ensuring clear ownership and accountability across teams.

• Lead project meetings, document decisions and action items, communicate progress, and escalate significant scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, or resource concerns.

• Build and maintain effective client relationships, acting as a primary point of contact for project coordination.

• Oversee delivery across relevant project stages, including requirements definition, engineering and design, equipment specification, supplier coordination, manufacturing, factory testing, site preparation, construction, installation, site testing, commissioning, training, and transition to commercial operation.

• Coordinate interfaces between STATCOM suppliers, utility and client teams, substation engineering, protection and control, civil and structural engineering, electrical, telecommunications and SCADA, planning, operations, maintenance, construction, and commissioning teams.

• Track technical and execution interfaces, assumptions, deliverables, reviews, approvals, and dependencies, ensuring issues are assigned to the appropriate technical owners and resolved or escalated promptly.

• Coordinate vendor submittals, technical reviews, requests for information, equipment and material status, factory and site test plans, commissioning readiness, and punch-list resolution.

• Support outage and site-access planning, coordinate field activities, and participate in project walkdowns in accordance with site and client requirements.

• Monitor supplier and contractor performance against approved scope, schedule, quality, and commercial requirements, identifying potential changes and securing the necessary approvals before committing to additional work.

Requirements

The ideal candidate combines substantial project management experience with direct exposure to STATCOM or E-STATCOM installations and the ability to coordinate complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. Essential qualifications and skills include:

• At least 7 years of experience in project management within utilities, construction, engineering, or a related field.

• A minimum of 2 years of direct project experience involving an E-STATCOM or STATCOM installation, upgrade, or program. Candidates should be able to explain their responsibilities, project phases, scale and complexity, key interfaces, and delivery outcomes.

• Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams and capital projects.

• Experience acting as a client liaison in a supporting or leadership capacity.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities effectively.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.

• High school diploma or GED.

• Willingness to travel domestically approximately 10–25% of the time.

• Authorization to work in the United States, as work visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Additional qualifications considered an advantage include:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Previous engineering design experience.

• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

• Familiarity with STATCOM and E-STATCOM project interfaces, including converter equipment and controls, protection and control systems, SCADA and telecommunications, substation design, system studies, factory and site testing, and commissioning. This familiarity supports project coordination and does not require acting as the technical design authority.

• Construction or field experience.

The role also values an interest in technology and innovation. Experience with AI, automation, programming, or other emerging technologies is beneficial where relevant, although it is not a mandatory requirement. Employees are expected to use technology responsibly and apply appropriate professional judgment when reviewing technology-assisted work.

Benefits

• Compensation: Annual salary range of $100,019–$152,807, with eligible employees potentially participating in a yearly discretionary bonus.

• Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision insurance plans.

• Insurance and protection: Life and accident insurance, disability coverage, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

• Family support: Back-up daycare and paid parental leave.

• Financial benefits: 401(k) retirement plan, Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Savings Account (HSA), and pre-tax commuter account.

• Professional development: Tuition assistance, merit scholarship program, and first professional licensure bonus.

• Additional perks: Employee discount program, corporate charitable giving program, and employee referral bonus.

• Paid time off: Annual personal and sick time, paid vacation, paid holidays, and paid bereavement leave.

• Work-life balance: Flexible work arrangements.
