Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Partner Engineer based in the United States.

We are looking for a skilled Partner Engineer to oversee the reliability, performance, and success of critical payroll and HRIS integrations within a growing technology environment. In this role, you will work directly with enterprise customers, external integration partners, and internal engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges. You will take ownership of integration troubleshooting, technical validation, and successful customer implementations. Combining strong API knowledge with customer-facing expertise, you will ensure seamless connections across multiple systems. You will also develop scalable processes, monitoring practices, and tools to improve operational efficiency and prevent recurring issues. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while helping shape the future of a technology-driven healthcare benefits ecosystem.

Accountabilities

• Take ownership of payroll and HRIS integration health by monitoring connections, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring reliable performance for customers.

• Lead technical validation and testing activities with enterprise customers, identifying potential integration challenges and ensuring successful implementations and launches.

• Serve as the technical point of contact for customers and internal teams, providing guidance on complex payroll configurations, integration capabilities, API functionality, and system limitations.

• Investigate and resolve integration issues by coordinating with customers, third-party partners, and internal engineering teams, ensuring problems are diagnosed and addressed efficiently.

• Develop and maintain scalable operational processes, including technical documentation, troubleshooting runbooks, monitoring practices, and workflows that improve integration reliability.

• Identify recurring technical challenges, evaluate integration performance, and recommend improvements to strengthen the customer experience and engineering efficiency.

• Collaborate cross-functionally to translate customer and partner needs into actionable technical solutions and long-term product improvements.

• Build repeatable approaches to integration management that reduce manual intervention, prevent recurring issues, and support business growth.

Requirements:

• At least 5 years of experience in partner engineering, solutions engineering, technical integrations, or a similar customer-facing technical position.

• Strong understanding of APIs, including the ability to interpret technical documentation, troubleshoot API failures, investigate connectivity issues, and diagnose integration problems.

• Demonstrated experience managing complex technical challenges involving multiple systems, stakeholders, and external integration partners.

• Excellent customer-facing communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and translate complex requirements into practical solutions.

• Strong ownership mentality, sound technical judgment, and the ability to independently prioritize issues, manage competing demands, and drive problems through to resolution.

• Experience developing repeatable operational processes, technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and monitoring practices to improve system reliability.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying technical risks and implementing sustainable improvements.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, customer-facing teams, enterprise clients, and third-party technology providers.

Additional assets:

• Experience with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, or employee benefits technology, particularly enterprise-level configurations and integrations.

• Familiarity with third-party APIs and integration platforms such as Finch, Merge, or comparable solutions.

• Experience developing internal tools, scripts, and automation solutions to improve integration reliability and reduce manual operational work.

• Background in forward-deployed engineering or technical solutions roles, with experience solving complex customer challenges and translating them into scalable technical improvements.

Benefits:

• Competitive annual salary ranging from $160,000 to $195,000 USD.

• Remote working opportunities across the United States.

• Location flexibility, with opportunities in Austin, Texas; New York, New York; and San Francisco, California.

• High-impact position offering significant ownership and responsibility from day one.

• Opportunity to work on complex technical challenges at the intersection of healthcare, technology, payments, and integrations.

• Direct collaboration with enterprise customers, external partners, and cross-functional engineering teams.

• Opportunity to influence integration architecture, operational processes, customer experience, and engineering efficiency.

• Professional growth through technical ownership, problem-solving, and participation in a rapidly evolving technology environment.

• Structured recruitment process designed to move efficiently, with most candidates completing the process within 2–3 weeks.
