Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Java Product Engineer / Full Stack Java Developer based in the United States.

The Java Product Engineer / Full Stack Java Developer will design, develop, modernize, and support enterprise software applications in mission-critical environments. You will build scalable backend services and full-stack solutions using modern Java technologies, Spring Boot, Oracle databases, and contemporary front-end frameworks. Working across the full software development lifecycle, you will take ownership of technical solutions from requirements analysis and architecture through deployment and ongoing support. You will contribute to application modernization initiatives, improving the performance, security, reliability, and maintainability of complex enterprise systems. In close collaboration with architects, business stakeholders, QA specialists, and Agile development teams, you will translate business needs into effective technical solutions. This is an opportunity to work on large-scale enterprise and federal technology projects while strengthening your expertise in modern software engineering and DevOps practices. Accountabilities

The Java Product Engineer will take ownership of enterprise application development and modernization, ensuring that software solutions meet technical, operational, and business requirements. Key responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and modernize enterprise Java applications using Java 17 or later.

• Build scalable backend microservices and RESTful APIs using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Spring MVC.

• Develop full-stack web applications using modern front-end frameworks such as React or Angular.

• Analyze existing enterprise applications and contribute to modernization initiatives involving Java, C/C++, COBOL, Pro*C, Oracle, and related technologies.

• Develop and maintain application data access layers using Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, and JDBC.

• Design complex SQL queries, PL/SQL procedures, stored procedures, and batch processing solutions.

• Optimize Oracle and other relational database performance through efficient query design, database access patterns, and performance tuning.

• Design secure, scalable, and maintainable application architectures using object-oriented principles and established software design patterns.

• Develop and support cloud-native applications and containerized deployments using Docker, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift.

• Design, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs for enterprise applications and distributed systems.

• Develop automated unit and integration tests using JUnit and Mockito to maintain application quality and reliability.

• Participate in peer code reviews, architecture reviews, and technical design discussions.

• Use SonarQube and other static code analysis tools to identify vulnerabilities and improve code quality.

• Troubleshoot complex application issues through debugging, log analysis, and root cause investigation.

• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Maven, Git, and related development tools.

• Support application deployments, production releases, and post-deployment troubleshooting.

• Implement application monitoring, logging, and performance optimization practices.

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements, assess technical challenges, and translate business needs into software solutions.

• Participate in Agile/Scrum activities, including sprint planning, estimation, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.

• Produce and maintain technical documentation covering system designs, implementation approaches, and technical decisions.

• Manage assigned development activities independently, taking ownership of features from initial design through production deployment and ongoing support.

• Evaluate existing applications and recommend improvements to performance, scalability, maintainability, reliability, and security.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a hands-on software engineer with strong enterprise Java development experience, full-stack capabilities, and the ability to independently solve complex technical challenges. Required qualifications include:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

• At least 5 years of professional experience developing enterprise Java applications.

• Strong proficiency in Java 17 or later.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Spring MVC, and Spring Data JPA.

• Strong understanding of Hibernate, JPA, entity relationships, lazy and eager loading, and transaction management.

• Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining enterprise microservices and RESTful APIs.

• Strong JDBC development skills, including complex SQL queries, batch processing, and database performance optimization.

• Experience developing against or administering Oracle or other enterprise relational databases.

• Experience designing and developing full-stack applications using modern front-end frameworks.

• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns, and clean coding principles.

• Experience developing automated unit and integration tests using JUnit and Mockito.

• Familiarity with Maven, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Proven ability to troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex issues in enterprise applications and production environments.

• Experience across the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

• Experience working within Agile/Scrum development teams.

• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders.

• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of development responsibilities.

• U.S. citizenship is required by contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced Oracle database development experience, including PL/SQL, stored procedures, and performance optimization.

• Experience with Oracle Exadata.

• Experience developing and deploying containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift.

• Familiarity with Spring Security and application security implementation.

• Experience with Kafka or other enterprise messaging technologies.

• Experience modernizing legacy enterprise applications developed in COBOL, Pro*C, or C/C++.

• Knowledge of secure software development practices and application security principles.

• Experience using SonarQube and static code analysis tools.

• Experience developing cloud-native applications.

• Familiarity with AWS or Microsoft Azure cloud environments.

• Experience contributing to large-scale enterprise software development initiatives.

• Experience supporting federal government customers or government IT modernization programs.

• Ability to independently assess legacy systems and recommend technical modernization strategies.

• Experience supporting production releases and mission-critical enterprise applications.

Benefits

• Annual salary range of $90,000–$110,000.

• Competitive benefits package.

• Opportunities for professional growth and certifications.

• Collaborative and innovative working environment.

• Exposure to modern Microsoft technologies and enterprise technology solutions.
