Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Electrical/Controls Engineer II – Energy based in the United States.

The Electrical/Controls Engineer II will contribute to the design, development, and implementation of electrical power and control systems for complex energy and industrial projects. Based in Richland, Washington, this role offers the opportunity to apply engineering expertise to critical infrastructure and plant systems. You will work on electrical distribution, motor control centers, power circuits, and equipment specifications while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams. The position combines design and analysis with practical involvement in equipment integration, installation, testing, and commissioning. You will help ensure that engineering solutions meet safety, reliability, regulatory, and project requirements. This is an opportunity to contribute to technically challenging projects while continuing to develop your engineering career.

Accountabilities

• Electrical Engineering Design: Apply engineering principles to design and develop electrical power and control systems, including distribution systems, motor control centers, power circuits, control circuits, and related infrastructure.

• Engineering Calculations and Compliance: Perform engineering calculations, including electrical load calculations and short-circuit analyses, using established methods to demonstrate compliance with project requirements and applicable codes.

• Technical Documentation: Develop single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, panel layouts, equipment specifications, and electrical equipment data sheets.

• Design Development and Plant Modifications: Support the preparation and approval of design documents and plant modifications, including coordinating designers and ensuring documentation follows approved procedures and design requirements.

• Equipment Specification and Selection: Support the specification and selection of equipment such as transformers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), diesel generators, silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs), and control panels.

• Technical Analysis and Problem Solving: Provide technical guidance and conduct engineering analyses to identify, evaluate, and resolve equipment and system issues.

• Codes, Standards, and Safety: Apply relevant national codes and standards, including NFPA 70, and ensure designs follow project specifications, design criteria, site requirements, and environmental health and safety policies.

• Multidisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with engineers, designers, subcontractors, and other project team members to integrate designs across disciplines and deliver work safely and efficiently.

• Quality Assurance and Schedule Management: Review design documents for accuracy and compliance with company procedures and client expectations. Ensure deliverables are complete, accurate, and timely, and take corrective action when necessary to address delays.

• Installation, Testing, and Commissioning: Support the installation and testing of electrical systems and components, with potential involvement in equipment operation, application engineering, startup, and commissioning.

• Continuous Improvement: Recommend equipment, concepts, and techniques to improve performance, simplify designs, reduce costs, address design issues, and comply with changing client requirements or regulations.

• Project Planning and Budgeting: Conduct research, reviews, studies, and analyses supporting plant changes and design modifications. Assist with engineering service cost estimates and coordinate assignments to meet project schedules and budgets.

• Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on power, controls, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent qualifications.

• At least 5 years of electrical engineering experience.

• Experience with low-voltage power distribution is preferred.

• Knowledge of electrical power system design software.

• Understanding of electrical engineering principles and their practical application in plant environments.

• Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and with subcontractors.

• Strong Microsoft Office skills.

• CAD skills are an advantage.

• Ability to manage technical deliverables, maintain accuracy, and work within established project schedules and requirements.

• Commitment to environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
