Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Corporate Vice President – Google Cloud Lead Engineer (GCP) based in the United States.

This senior technical leadership role offers the opportunity to shape enterprise-wide cloud architecture, modernization, and engineering excellence within a highly regulated financial services environment. The successful candidate will drive Google Cloud Platform (GCP) strategy, designing secure, scalable, and resilient solutions while establishing architectural standards and engineering best practices. Combining hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership, the role will guide cross-functional teams through complex cloud transformation initiatives. Key priorities include cloud-native development, infrastructure automation, DevOps, security governance, and operational reliability. The position also supports the adoption of advanced technologies, including MLOps and Agentic AI capabilities through Vertex AI. This is a hybrid-remote opportunity open to candidates across the United States, with an in-office expectation of three days per quarter. Accountabilities

• Cloud Architecture and Engineering: Lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-grade solutions on Google Cloud Platform. Establish and maintain cloud reference architectures and engineering standards aligned with organizational security, regulatory, and business requirements.

• Cloud-Native Solutions: Architect secure, scalable, resilient, and cloud-native applications, ensuring solutions meet enterprise performance and reliability expectations.

• Migration and Modernization: Lead cloud migration and modernization initiatives, including application re-platforming, transformation, and the evolution of existing technology environments.

• Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical lead for cross-functional GCP projects, guiding engineering teams through architecture decisions, solution design, and implementation.

• Architecture Reviews and Best Practices: Conduct architecture reviews, recommend engineering best practices, and ensure technical solutions align with established standards and long-term technology strategies.

• Team Mentorship: Mentor and support engineers across application, infrastructure, and platform teams, helping strengthen technical capabilities and promote consistent engineering practices.

• Technical Escalation: Act as an escalation point for complex cloud and infrastructure challenges, driving investigation, resolution, and continuous improvement.

• DevOps and CI/CD Automation: Build, maintain, and optimize continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using Harness CI/CD, supporting reliable and efficient software releases.

• Infrastructure as Code: Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC), preferably using Terraform, to automate infrastructure provisioning and ensure consistency across environments.

• Operational Automation and SRE: Automate deployment, monitoring, provisioning, and operational workflows. Promote Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, reduce manual operational effort through reusable templates, and strengthen secure release processes.

• Security, Governance, and Compliance: Ensure cloud solutions comply with enterprise security, privacy, and regulatory requirements. Implement and maintain best practices for identity and access management (IAM), network security, encryption, and key management.

• Enterprise Risk Alignment: Collaborate with security, risk, and compliance teams to ensure proposed technical solutions adhere to enterprise policies, controls, and governance guardrails.

• Cloud Cost Management: Establish and enforce cloud governance and cost-management controls, promoting efficient resource utilization and financial accountability.

• GCP Platform Management: Lead the implementation and optimization of core GCP services, including Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Run, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage.

• AI and MLOps Enablement: Account for GCP implementations involving MLOps and Agentic AI capabilities, including tools and services available through Vertex AI.

• Observability and Performance: Enhance platform observability through Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, and New Relic. Continuously optimize performance, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency across cloud environments.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product teams, architects, and business stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into scalable cloud solutions.

• Technology Strategy: Contribute to cloud roadmaps, modernization plans, architecture strategies, and technology evaluations. Support proofs of concept and the adoption of emerging cloud capabilities.

Requirements:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

• Professional Experience: At least 8 years of experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, or infrastructure engineering.

• Google Cloud Expertise: At least 4 years of hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including the design, implementation, and operation of cloud solutions.

• Cloud Architecture: Demonstrated experience designing cloud-native and hybrid architectures, with the ability to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient enterprise solutions.

• GCP Services and Networking: Strong expertise in core GCP services, cloud networking, and the integration of cloud infrastructure components.

• Kubernetes and Containerization: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, particularly Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and container-based application environments.

• DevOps and CI/CD: Strong understanding of DevOps principles, continuous integration and delivery pipelines, and automated software deployment practices.

• Infrastructure as Code: Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code, with Terraform preferred.

• Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or comparable programming languages, with the ability to contribute to engineering and automation initiatives.

• Agile and DevOps Environments: Experience working in Agile development and DevOps-oriented organizations, collaborating across technical teams to deliver complex solutions.

• Cloud Certifications: Professional GCP certifications, such as Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, or Professional Data Engineer, are preferred.

• Regulated Industry Experience: Experience in regulated sectors such as insurance, financial services, or healthcare is an advantage.

• Security and Compliance: Strong background in cloud security, identity and access management, and regulatory or enterprise compliance frameworks.

• Hybrid and Multi-Cloud Environments: Familiarity with hybrid or multi-cloud architectures, including integration of services and resources across GCP and AWS, is preferred.

• Reliability Engineering: Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering, observability, monitoring, and reliability engineering practices.

• Communication and Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and influence both technology and business teams.

• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, particularly when addressing complex architectural and infrastructure challenges.

• Strategic and Hands-On Leadership: Ability to think strategically while remaining actively involved in technical design, engineering decisions, and implementation.

• Professional Values: Commitment to integrity, collaboration, accountability, and human-centered leadership.
