POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Development serves as the lead fundraising professional for the Jeremiah Program campus, partnering closely with the Executive Director (ED) to develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that achieves annual revenue goals and builds a sustainable base of philanthropic support.

As a senior individual contributor without direct staff management responsibilities, the Director leads the full spectrum of campus fundraising, including strategy, prospect identification, donor cultivation and solicitation, stewardship, and fundraising operations. This is a highly hands-on role for an entrepreneurial, results-oriented fundraiser who can develop a plan and independently execute the work necessary to achieve it. Individual giving is at the heart of this role. The Director will strengthen the campus’s annual fund, grow and retain its individual donor base, cultivate major gift prospects, and build a robust donor pipeline.

Serving as the ED’s primary fundraising partner, the Director will translate fundraising goals into action and strategically engage the ED, community board members, campus colleagues, and JP’s national Campus Support Team (CST) to advance donor relationships and achieve the campus’s annual fundraising goal. The current fundraising goal is $900,000; however, it is subject to increase for 2027.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Giving, Annual Fund & Major Donor Pipeline Development (50%)

  • Lead the strategy, development, and hands-on execution of a comprehensive campus individual giving program designed to grow annual philanthropic revenue, strengthen donor retention, and increase giving over time.
  • Build and implement a year-round annual fund program, including donor acquisition, renewals, upgrades, recurring giving, targeted appeals, and personalized stewardship.
  • Personally manage an active portfolio of individual donors and prospects, taking responsibility for the full donor lifecycle, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, gift closure, and stewardship.
  • Identify, qualify, and cultivate prospective major donors, building a sustainable pipeline of individuals with the capacity and inclination to make significant philanthropic investments.
  • Develop and execute individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies, including personally making gift requests and preparing the Executive Director and other leaders for donor solicitations.
  • Establish consistent moves management practices, donor segmentation, and stewardship strategies that increase donor engagement, retention, and lifetime giving.
  • Develop compelling donor communications, proposals, appeals, and stewardship materials that translate JP's mission and impact into persuasive opportunities for philanthropic investment.
  • Execute targeted donor acquisition and engagement strategies to expand the campus’ philanthropic network, including leveraging community relationships, referrals, and prospect research.
  • Track and assess individual giving performance, including donor retention, acquisition, upgrades, major gift pipeline activity, and progress toward revenue goals.

Campus Fundraising Strategy & Executive Director Partnership (20%)

  • Serve as the campus's primary fundraising strategist and practitioner, partnering closely with the Executive Director to develop, implement, and monitor an annual fundraising plan aligned with campus revenue goals and long-term growth opportunities.
  • Take day-to-day ownership of the campus fundraising operation, independently managing priorities, timelines, donor relationships, and execution across multiple revenue streams.
  • Translate annual fundraising goals into actionable plans with clear revenue targets, donor strategies, pipeline expectations, and measurable activities.
  • Serve as a trusted fundraising advisor to the Executive Director, identifying opportunities for strategic donor engagement, preparing briefing materials, recommending next steps, and supporting effective solicitations.
  • Partner with the Executive Director to engage community board members in fundraising, including identifying prospects, activating networks, supporting give/get commitments, and advancing donor relationships.
  • Support the Executive Director in driving 100% community board participation in established give/get expectations and meaningful fundraising engagement.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent fundraising rhythm with the Executive Director, including regular pipeline reviews, donor strategy discussions, solicitation planning, and progress assessments.
  • Monitor fundraising performance, identify risks and opportunities, and proactively recommend adjustments to strategies and activities to achieve revenue goals.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between campus leadership and the CST Development Team, communicating campus fundraising needs, opportunities, and priorities while leveraging national resources to advance local results.

Corporate, Institutional & Event Fundraising (15%)

  • Lead campus-level corporate sponsorship and partnership development, including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, with an emphasis on long-term philanthropic relationships.
  • Identify and advance institutional funding opportunities in coordination with the national development team, including supporting proposal development, reporting, and relationship management as appropriate.
  • Manage local foundation and corporate relationships and stewardship in partnership with the Executive Director and national CST grant writing team, providing strategic guidance on funder priorities, proposal development, and grant reporting, and reviewing submissions to ensure alignment with funder interests and expectations.
  • Lead the fundraising strategy and execution of campus events, including sponsorship solicitation, donor engagement, follow-up, and stewardship, in partnership with campus colleagues and CST.
  • Ensure events and partnerships are strategically integrated into the broader individual giving and major donor pipeline, rather than treated as stand-alone fundraising activities.
  • Cultivate relationships with community leaders, volunteers, corporate partners, and other stakeholders who can expand JP's visibility, philanthropic network, and fundraising opportunities.
  • Represent JP at relevant community and donor events, campus tours, and stakeholder meetings to strengthen relationships and advance fundraising priorities.

Fundraising Operations & Donor Stewardship (15%)

  • Independently manage the day-to-day fundraising activities necessary to execute the campus development plan, including donor communications, prospect research, meeting preparation, follow-up, gift tracking, and stewardship.
  • Maintain accurate donor records, contact reports, solicitation plans, and pipeline activity in Raiser's Edge, ensuring timely and consistent documentation of donor engagement.
  • Use donor data and fundraising performance metrics to assess progress, prioritize opportunities, and make informed decisions.
  • Coordinate timely gift acknowledgments, donor recognition, and personalized stewardship activities in partnership with relevant campus and national colleagues.
  • Partner with the Campus Support Team to leverage national fundraising resources, systems, communications, and operational support while maintaining accountability for local execution and results.
  • Collaborate with campus leadership, including the Family Services Director, to gather relevant program information, outcomes, and stories that strengthen donor engagement and demonstrate JP's impact.
  • Partner closely with the Operations Manager, who provides key administrative and coordination support for development activities, including gift processing, donor records, acknowledgments, reporting, meeting and event logistics, and other fundraising administration. The Director maintains overall ownership of development operations, ensuring work is coordinated, timely, accurate, and aligned with JP’s established policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational discipline, sound judgment, and the ability to independently manage multiple fundraising priorities in a fast-paced, resource-conscious environment.
  • Stay informed about fundraising best practices, emerging philanthropic trends, and opportunities to strengthen the effectiveness of campus development efforts.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: This job description provides a comprehensive overview of the role's responsibilities, but it's important to note that duties, responsibilities, and activities may evolve with or without prior notice.
