Mechanical Design Engineer

Janicki Industries is seeking Mechanical Design Engineers to design and deliver advanced machines and automated manufacturing systems. This role is ideal for hands-on engineers who want to take designs from concept through implementation. You will work on complex, high‑precision equipment, including large‑scale machine tools, robotics, and automated systems, collaborating closely with machinists, technicians, controls engineers, and project stakeholders. Role Overview Mechanical Engineers at Janicki design, develop, and analyze mechanical systems, applying engineering principles to machines, robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and integrated controls. Work includes fabrication support, assembly, installation, operation, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in designing mechanical systems for manufacturing automation
• Develop advanced machines for composite and metal manufacturing
• Deliver production‑ready automated equipment using broad mechanical knowledge
• Support installation of new CNC machines including preparation, utilities, rigging, and integration
• Coordinate with vendors and internal teams through installation, startup, and commissioning
• Help develop installation plans, timelines, testing, and acceptance criteria
• Troubleshoot mechanical and integration issues during installation and early production
• Manage multiple projects from early design through manufacturing and commissioning
• Perform hands-on troubleshooting in production to improve system designs
• Meet deadlines, work collaboratively, and maintain reliable attendance

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (ITAR/EAR requirement)
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance; participation in Continuous Evaluation required Education & Experience

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 6+ years designing large mechanical systems with automated components (motors, gearboxes, bearings, servos, etc.)
• 6+ years experience using NX or CATIA
• Experience managing large assembly models, outsourced manufacturing, and component assembly
• Ability to prioritize and execute in a dynamic environment
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to work with technicians, machinists, millwrights, and engineers
• High school diploma or GED minimum
• Willingness to obtain security clearance

Preferred:

• Experience with machine design, automation, or robotics
• Skills in stress analysis, hydraulics, and pneumatics
• Experience designing large assembly models in CAD
• Experience with outsourced manufacturing
• Hands-on experience with assembly, installation, or commissioning of machinery Additional Information Salary range: $83,000–$148,000 per year plus discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and health benefits. Off‑shift roles may include premium pay. Actual compensation depends on experience, skills, and other job‑related factors.
