Original job description
At Jacobs, we're looking for motivated individuals who enjoy technical design, solving problems, and working with a great team. Whether you're early in your career or have several years of experience, we value your technical abilities, willingness to learn, and potential to grow.
This hybrid opportunity is open to candidates across the United States. Being near a Jacobs office is preferred, but our priority is finding the right person for the team.
As an Intermediate Telecommunications Designer, you'll help design telecommunications and low-voltage systems for data center projects, including structured cabling, wireless networks, and other integrated technologies.
You'll work alongside experienced engineers, designers, and technical specialists who will provide guidance and mentorship as you develop your skills and take on new challenges.
What You'll Do
- Assist with telecommunications design from initial concepts through final construction documents.
- Develop and coordinate engineering drawings using Revit and other design tools.
- Prepare and update Division 27/28 telecommunications specifications and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers, BIM designers, and other disciplines to develop practical design solutions.
- Review drawings and technical information for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in project meetings and occasional site visits (if required) to support design development.
- Help resolve technical challenges and coordinate with project teams, clients, and vendors.
- Support project schedules, quality reviews, and deliverables.
- We're looking for someone with a solid technical foundation, a positive attitude, and an interest in telecommunications design. You don't need to know everything on day one.
- Technical or associate's degree in engineering, telecommunications, drafting, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Technical aptitude and the ability to understand engineering concepts, interpret drawings, and develop accurate design solutions.
- Experience with Autodesk Revit is highly preferred, particularly in developing and coordinating technical drawings.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to learn new technologies, accept feedback, and continue developing technical skills.
Ideally, You'll Also Have
- The following experience is a plus, but not required to apply:
- Experience with telecommunications or structured cabling design.
- Familiarity with ANSI/TIA, BICSI, or NFPA 70 standards.
- Experience with Navisworks or BIM coordination.
- Exposure to other low-voltage systems, such as security, access control, audiovisual, or wireless systems.
- Familiarity with project coordination, schedules, budgets, or technical proposals.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related discipline.
