Space Planner - Semiconductor Facilities
At Jacobs, we're helping clients deliver some of the world's most advanced semiconductor and manufacturing facilities. As a Space Planner, you'll play a key role in shaping how these complex facilities are organized and designed, bringing together multidisciplinary requirements to develop practical, efficient, and coordinated facility layouts.
Working across multidisciplinary project teams, you'll lead the development of space planning concepts and strategies that balance equipment layouts, utility infrastructure, operational needs, and building requirements. From early facility planning through detailed design, you'll help guide critical design decisions, resolve challenging spatial constraints, and support integrated project delivery.
Join us and you'll have the opportunity to contribute to some of the industry's most technically challenging projects, collaborating with engineers, architects, designers, and project leaders to develop innovative and functional semiconductor facilities.
Here's What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the development of facility space planning concepts and strategies, establishing the overall organization of equipment, utility infrastructure, access, and building spaces across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Collaborate with engineering, architectural, and design disciplines to establish space requirements and integrate competing project needs into practical facility solutions.
- Develop and evaluate conceptual space plans, building sections, clear height requirements, equipment arrangements, and utility distribution strategies.
- Guide the planning of primary and secondary utility infrastructure, including utility routing zones, conceptual rack sizing and locations, gravity drain requirements, and shared utility corridors.
- Coordinate equipment layouts, maintenance and operational access, equipment move-in/move-out requirements, and applicable code clearances within facility designs.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary design coordination, helping teams identify constraints, resolve spatial conflicts, and make informed decisions that balance discipline-specific requirements with overall project objectives.
- Support early project planning and proof-of-concept studies to evaluate building configurations, infrastructure requirements, and facility design alternatives.
- Degree or technical training in Engineering, Architecture, Design, Construction, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant technical design experience.
- Demonstrated experience in facility design, including facility layouts, utility infrastructure, equipment arrangements, or multidisciplinary design coordination.
- Strong understanding of facility equipment layouts, utility distribution systems, and spatial coordination requirements.
- Experience working across multiple technical disciplines to develop integrated facility design solutions.
- Experience and proficiency with 3D design and coordination software such as Revit, CADWorx, Navisworks, or similar platforms.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate competing requirements and develop practical design strategies.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and coordination skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience interpreting and developing technical drawings, layouts, and 3D facility models.
