Original job description

Help build the infrastructure behind the world's digital future.

An opportunity for emerging engineers to launch their careers on large-scale data center projects, gaining exposure to construction, engineering, and project delivery while working alongside experienced mentors in a collaborative and growth-focused environment.

Work location and assignment: This is a site-based position assigned to a project location in the United States. The selected candidate should expect to work primarily at the project site and travel as needed to support project execution. Per diem is available for this assignment in accordance with applicable Jacobs and project policies; eligibility, amount, duration, and other terms are determined by the assignment and current policy.

At Jacobs, we deliver complex data center and mission-critical projects that support the digital infrastructure people and businesses rely on. As a Field Engineer, you will support day-to-day site execution by coordinating technical information, tracking construction progress, and helping project teams resolve field issues across assigned work areas.

You will work on site with project managers, superintendents, construction managers, discipline engineers, trade partners, commissioning teams, and client representatives. You will review drawings and specifications, document site conditions, coordinate requests for information and submittals, and follow actions through to resolution using project procedures and systems.

This is a hands-on, site-based role that requires regular field presence. You will help connect design intent with construction conditions, identify issues early, and keep accurate records that support safe, quality, and timely delivery. You will work under the direction of project and field leadership, escalating decisions that affect scope, cost, schedule, safety, or technical requirements.

Your Key Responsibilities

Site Coordination and Field Support

  • Coordinate assigned construction and engineering activities with project leadership, discipline teams, trade partners, and client representatives.
  • Review current drawings, specifications, work plans, and approved changes to support field teams and identify discrepancies or missing information.
  • Conduct routine site walks within assigned scope; document observed progress, constraints, and field conditions, and communicate findings to the appropriate project lead.
  • Support coordination of work interfaces, access, sequencing, and technical information among multiple trades and disciplines.
  • Technical Documentation and Issue Resolution
  • Prepare, log, route, and track requests for information, submittals, field observations, design clarifications, and other project records in accordance with project procedures.
  • Compare field conditions with contract documents and approved design information; promptly elevate conflicts, potential nonconformance, or constructability concerns for review by authorized project personnel.
  • Coordinate responses and action items with engineering and construction teams, maintaining clear records of status, ownership, and due dates.
  • Assist with quantity tracking, progress verification, installation documentation, and turnover records for assigned work packages.

Schedule, Quality, and Safety

  • Support short-interval planning and schedule updates by collecting field progress, identifying constraints, and communicating risks or dependencies to project leadership.
  • Participate in quality inspections and verification activities as assigned; document results and help track corrective actions to closure.
  • Follow Jacobs, client, and site-specific safety requirements; participate in safety briefings and promptly report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions through established channels.
  • Maintain organized, timely, and accurate field records, meeting notes, daily reports, photo logs, and action trackers.
  • Commissioning and Project Closeout
  • Coordinate with construction, engineering, and commissioning personnel to support completion tracking, system readiness, punch-list resolution, and turnover documentation.
  • Help confirm that required field records and closeout information are collected, reviewed by the appropriate parties, and filed in the project’s designated systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Typically 3 or more years of experience in field engineering, construction coordination, engineering support, or project delivery for complex building or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience reading construction drawings, specifications, and related technical documents and supporting resolution of field questions.
  • Working knowledge of construction documentation and project controls practices, including RFIs, submittals, field reports, issue logs, and action tracking.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and construction personnel, organize multiple priorities, and follow issues through to resolution.
  • Ability to work primarily at an active construction site and comply with site access, safety, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to travel or work away from home for the duration of the assigned project, as required.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have

  • Experience supporting data center, mission-critical, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, healthcare, or other technically complex facility construction.
  • Experience working in an EPCM, design-build, construction management, or owner’s representative project environment.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, or controls construction interfaces and the coordination needs of multi-trade projects.
  • Experience with project collaboration and field documentation platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
  • OSHA 30-hour construction training, an Engineer-in-Training credential, or a project management credential.
  • Jacobs is an equal opportunity employer. Employment and assignment terms, including travel support and per diem, are subject to applicable company policies, project requirements, and governing law.
