Original job description

Description At izzio Artisan Bakery, we believe great bread starts with great ingredients and great people. As the #1 selling and fastest-growing sourdough brand, we craft our bread in small batches using time-honored techniques, simple ingredients, and a passion for quality. Naturally fermented and incredibly delicious, izzio is real artisan sourdough. Our team is at the heart of everything we do and a key ingredient in our success.

Position Summary We are looking for an experienced Risk Manager to lead the day-to-day management of izzio's risk and insurance program. Reporting to the CHRO/Risk Officer, with a dotted line to the VP of Finance, this role identifies, assesses, and reduces risk across our people, manufacturing operations, supply chain, and business partnerships.

This role manages the insurance program and initial claims, supports the CHRO/Risk Officer in managing the annual insurance renewal in collaboration with Finance, and strengthens our safety and return-to-work programs. The role partners closely with Operations, Food Safety & Quality, EHS, HR, and Finance to protect our people, products, and growth.

Essential Responsibilities Claims Management

  • Oversee workers' compensation, liability, property, and auto claims from first report through closure, in partnership with HR and Plant leadership, carriers, and brokers.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation with leave of absence, FMLA, and ADA processes so the interactive process and return-to-work stay aligned.
  • Run regular claim reviews, monitor and track the experience modification factor.
  • Strengthen modified-duty and return-to-work programs to reduce lost time and claim costs.

Insurance Program, Renewals and Business Continuity

  • Manage the day-to-day commercial insurance program: property, business interruption, general and product liability, product contamination and recall, workers' compensation, auto, cyber, D&O, EPLI, fiduciary, crime, and umbrella.
  • Coordinate renewal execution under the direction of the CHRO/Risk Officer: coordinate with the broker, prepare underwriting submissions and exposure data, analyze coverage options and market responses, and draft renewal recommendations for review by the CHRO/Risk Officer and Finance.
  • Maintain property valuations, schedules of values, policy records, and the certificate of insurance database. Manage certificate of insurance requirements, both those izzio provides and those it collects.
  • Track total cost of risk and recommend ways to reduce premiums and retained losses.
  • Develop and test business continuity and crisis management plans.

Loss Prevention and Safety Partnership

  • Partner with EHS Manager on OSHA compliance, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate carrier and broker loss-control visits and track recommendations to completion.
  • Use loss data to identify trends by facility, line, and job, and target prevention efforts accordingly.

Finance Partnership

  • Work with the VP of Finance on the insurance budget, premium allocation by facility or cost center, and accruals for retained losses.
  • Provide renewal cost projections, premium comparisons, and total-cost-of-risk analysis to support Finance's review of renewal decisions.
  • Support audit, lender, and finance-related insurance requirements.

Reporting

  • Produce monthly risk and claims dashboards for the CHRO/Risk Officer and VP of Finance.
  • Contribute workers' compensation and risk metrics to monthly HR KPI reporting.
  • Complete customer risk and insurance questionnaires and support customer and third-party audits.

Requirements

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in risk management, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of commercial risk management or insurance experience, preferably in food, CPG, or manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of commercial insurance lines, especially product recall and contamination, property and business interruption, and workers' compensation.
  • Experience managing claims, insurance carriers, and broker relationships.
  • Ability to review contracts for insurance and indemnification terms.
  • Strong analytical skills and Excel proficiency, with the ability to turn loss data into clear recommendations.
  • Clear communicator who can work credibly with plant leadership, HR, Finance, and executives.

Preferred

  • ARM, CRM, CPCU, or RIMS-CRMP designation.
  • Familiarity with FSMA, SQF or BRC, and food-safety recall requirements
  • Experience with Colorado workers' compensation and manufacturing operations.
