Original job description
IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
The Portfolio Analytics Specialist role at IREN provides the quantitative analysis, modelling and reporting that underpins energy decisions across our data centre portfolio, with operations in North America, Europe and Australia. The successful candidate will build and maintain price, load, valuation and optimization models, value PPAs, hedges, CRRs and ancillary services positions, quantify basis, congestion and curtailment economics, and deliver the position, mark-to-market and performance reporting used by trading, procurement, operations and finance. The role requires strong quantitative and data management skills, sound power market knowledge and the ability to translate complex analysis into clear commercial recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain proprietary models for power price forecasting, load forecasting and portfolio optimization across IREN's markets.
- Produce daily position, mark-to-market, P&L and exposure reporting for the energy portfolio, including attribution of the drivers behind performance.
- Deliver ongoing portfolio monitoring and translate findings into clear strategy recommendations for the Head of Energy and senior leadership.
- Build and maintain valuation models for hedges, PPAs and structured transactions, and value FTR/CRR, ancillary services and demand response positions, quantifying basis and congestion exposure across nodes.
- Develop scenario analysis, stress tests and sensitivity analysis to stress-test portfolio decisions and quantify price, volume, shape and basis risk under a range of market and operating conditions.
- Partner with Fundamental Analysis to validate forecasts and model outputs against third-party views and market intelligence.
- Build and maintain IREN's energy database and supporting data pipelines - market data, pricing curves, positions and exposures - drawn from ISO portals, market data vendors and internal operating systems.
- Lead ETRM modelling and implementation to support deal capture, position management and portfolio reporting.
- Quantify curtailment economics, flexibility value and dispatch trade-offs in partnership with Operations and Site Development.
- Support hedging, procurement and origination decisions with pricing analysis, deal screening, sensitivity testing and post-trade performance review.
- Design, automate and maintain dashboards and recurring reporting for the Head of Energy, Finance, Operations and senior leadership.
- Backtest forecasts and models, document methodology and assumptions, and maintain model governance, validation and version control.
- Partner with Risk, Finance and Accounting on valuation inputs, settlement variance analysis, budgeting and forecasting support.
- Monitor market rules, PUCT developments and market-design changes, and quantify their impact on IREN's operating cost, flexibility value and portfolio strategy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or a related quantitative field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in quantitative energy analytics, market modelling, ETRM systems, portfolio analysis or a comparable quantitative role.
- Hands-on ERCOT data experience strongly preferred, including nodal pricing, day-ahead and real-time markets, CRRs, ancillary services and settlement data.
- Strong quantitative and statistical skills, including pricing models, valuation methods, time-series forecasting and risk metrics such as VaR, exposure and sensitivities.
- Advanced Excel required; strong Python or R and SQL skills expected, with experience in data pipelines, version control and visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Hands-on ETRM experience, including modelling, configuration or implementation; familiarity with ISO portals and market data platforms.
- Ability to translate complex quantitative analysis into clear, decision-ready recommendations for commercial and non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation discipline, model governance awareness and a commitment to reproducible analysis.
- Comfortable working to tight reporting deadlines in a fast-moving market environment, including support for portfolio needs outside standard business hours where required.
