Senior Backend Engineer (AI Agent Platform)

Our positions are full-time, remote, and offer competitive compensation in USD. We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a team building a shared AI agent platform. The platform provides the contracts, identity and access controls, runtime capabilities, and evaluation and release workflows that other teams use to build and operate agents. The broader roadmap includes Slack and voice integrations, data ingestion, file exchange, multi-agent orchestration, scheduled and event-driven execution, dynamic skill loading, and controls for handling sensitive data. You will own a technical area end to end: design and implement it, align directly with SRE, DevOps, and security teams, and document it so other engineers can build on your work.

Responsibilities:

• Design and evolve versioned agent contracts and validators, including permissions, approval modes, and mappings between agent capabilities and infrastructure access.
• Build reliable APIs and streaming interfaces for agent invocation, discovery, and interoperability, including JSON-RPC, server-sent events, and protocols such as A2A.
• Implement secure authentication and authorization flows, including token verification, audience validation, token exchange, and identity propagation to downstream tools.
• Build automated evaluations and release gates for non-deterministic systems, covering expected behavior, required refusals, and meaningful regressions.
• Expand reusable platform capabilities across integrations, agent workflows, data ingestion, file exchange, orchestration, and scheduled or event-driven execution.
• Harden the runtime with restrictive tool policies, resource and cost limits, timeouts, reliable health checks, and graceful shutdown.
• Contribute to secure CI/CD workflows and infrastructure across AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Implement sensitive-data controls in collaboration with security and infrastructure teams.
• Help other teams adopt the platform through clear interfaces, documentation, examples, and reusable development workflows.
• Write technical specifications and architecture decision records, making scope, trade-offs, and operational expectations explicit.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of Backend Engineering experience.
• Strong Python skills, including asynchronous execution, concurrency, debugging, and reliability under load.
• Experience designing APIs and working with streaming or asynchronous communication.
• Use of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent, including reviewing, testing, and debugging generated code.
• Experience automating repetitive engineering work to improve development speed and reliability.
• Experience integrating LLMs into production systems, including agents that call tools.
• Familiarity with agent frameworks or protocols such as LangChain, LangGraph, MCP, or A2A.
• Experience evaluating LLM-based systems through automated tests, evaluation datasets, or other systematic quality checks.
• Practical understanding of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, token verification, and authorization.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and containerized services, preferably AWS and Kubernetes.
• Strong English communication skills - Minimum B2 level proficiency.
