Required Skills & Experience

Must-Have Qualifications Professional experience using Tekla Structures for structural steel modeling/detailing. Experience producing and reviewing structural steel shop drawings. Ability to read and interpret structural engineering drawings and specifications. Experience generating NC/DSTV files for CNC fabrication. Understanding of structural steel fabrication, including bolted and welded connections. Working knowledge of AISC standards. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Bridge, truss, or heavy structural steel detailing experience. Familiarity with AASHTO requirements and AWS D1.5 bridge welding standards. Experience reviewing or managing work from third-party detailing firms. AutoCAD experience. Associate degree or technical certification in drafting, CAD, or a related field.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced steel detailer who wants to work closely with both engineering and fabrication and see their models and drawings turn directly into large-scale structural projects. The position offers significant ownership of the detailing process and direct involvement in solving real-world fabrication challenges.

Compensation:

[$70,000 to $80,000].

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an experienced Tekla Detailer / Draftsman to join a growing structural engineering and steel fabrication team in Westerville, Ohio. This individual will work closely with engineers and the fabrication shop to turn structural designs into accurate 3D Tekla models, shop drawings, and fabrication-ready files.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Tekla Structures and structural steel detailing, along with a strong understanding of how drawings and models translate into the fabrication process. This person will also serve as a key resource for shop questions and help review work completed by outside detailing partners.

Responsibilities

Build detailed 3D structural steel models using Tekla Structures, including members, plates, connections, bolts, welds, and assemblies. Produce assembly, single-part, erection, and fabrication/shop drawings. Review and check shop drawings for accuracy and alignment with engineering designs. Generate NC/DSTV and CNC fabrication files used for cutting, drilling, and plate work. Maintain Tekla models and drawings as engineering designs are revised. Prepare material lists and bills of materials. Work directly with the fabrication shop to resolve drawing, dimension, and fit-up questions. Identify missing or conflicting design information and coordinate RFIs with the engineering team. Review models and drawings produced by outside detailing firms and ensure work meets established Tekla and fabrication standards.
