Job Description
We are seeking a Tax Specialist to support large-scale capital projects by providing tax planning, compliance, and risk management guidance throughout the project lifecycle. This role serves as a key advisor to procurement, supply chain, finance, legal, and project teams to ensure tax implications are identified, evaluated, and addressed before commercial decisions are made.
The ideal candidate understands that tax decisions in project environments are rarely black and white. They must be comfortable researching complex scenarios, interpreting evolving tax regulations, evaluating alternatives, and providing practical recommendations that balance compliance, cost, and business objectives.
This role is heavily focused on multi-state U.S. tax compliance, tax exemptions, indirect taxes, and procurement-related tax implications. The individual will frequently assess new projects, new jurisdictions, supplier structures, and legal entities to determine the most appropriate tax treatment and minimize unnecessary tax exposure.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities Evaluate tax implications for new projects, contracts, and procurement activities across multiple jurisdictions. Review sourcing, procurement, and commercial strategies to identify tax risks and optimization opportunities. Assess sales and use tax, indirect tax, withholding tax, and nexus impacts related to project activities. Analyze procurement structures, supplier relationships, and legal entity considerations to determine appropriate tax treatment. Evaluate and administer tax exemption opportunities, exemption certificates, and related compliance requirements. Partner with procurement, supply chain, finance, legal, and project teams to ensure tax requirements are incorporated into project execution plans. Review contracts, invoices, purchase transactions, and pricing structures to verify proper tax treatment. Research complex tax issues and provide recommendations to project stakeholders. Support tax audits, assessments, exemption reviews, and interactions with tax authorities. Develop tax guidance, procedures, controls, and documentation to support compliance. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes that may impact project execution and procurement activities. Assist project teams in understanding tax obligations and potential financial impacts associated with project decisions.
