Job Description
Day to Day
The Software Test Lead will be responsible for leading and coordinating software testing across multiple projects and software builds. This person will take ownership of the overall testing effort, ensuring the team achieves appropriate test coverage while avoiding redundant testing across different projects. The Test Lead will review the requirements associated with each software build, determine what tests need to be created or executed, identify gaps in existing coverage, prioritize testing activities, and assign work across the testing team. They will work closely with Technical Leads and engineering teams to coordinate planned testing as well as faster-turnaround testing required for demonstrations or changing project needs. This is a hands-on leadership position, not simply a test management role. The Software Test Lead will actively perform testing in addition to coordinating the overall effort. The current environment includes significant manual system and software testing, scripting, system setup, and troubleshooting communication between integrated components. The organization is moving toward increased automation, so experience with automated testing is beneficial. The Test Lead does not need to be a C++ developer, but familiarity with C++ is helpful for understanding the software being tested. More importantly, this person needs to be comfortable interpreting requirements, UML and activity diagrams, working with scripting languages, understanding TCP/IP communication, and setting up and troubleshooting integrated test environments. What I changed: I stripped out all identifying project/platform terminology, made the Technical Lead clearly a software delivery + integration + technical coordination role, and made the Software Test Lead clearly a test ownership + coverage + hands-on testing role. I also kept C++ as a plus rather than overstating it as a hard requirement.
Compensation:
$35/hr to $70/hr
