Job Description
ABOUT THE JOB
You will own mechanical design for the primary structure of a maritime autonomous vehicle. You will define the geometry, load paths, and mechanical interfaces that hold the vehicle together - a pressure-rated structure that must survive repeated dives to depth while meeting tight mass and volume targets.
Your spectrum of support will be diverse in nature and require you to leverage your technical expertise as well as leadership skills to set objectives, build cross-functional teams, and rapidly drive to completion.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own mechanical design of the vehicle primary structure and its major interfaces
- Design pressure-rated structural assemblies for full-depth operation
- Define structural interfaces with propulsion, buoyancy, energy, and payload systems
- Produce drawings, tolerance stackups, and interface control documents
- Perform hand calculations and coordinate detailed analysis with the structural analysis team
- Drive trade studies balancing strength, weight, corrosion resistance, and producibility
- Select materials and processes appropriate to a marine environment
- Support prototype builds, fabrication, and design-for-manufacturability reviews
- Contribute to design reviews (PDR, CDR) and structural test campaigns
- Travel up to 25% to test sites and manufacturing facilities
