Proposal Engineer

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
• 3+ years of application engineering experience supporting engineered-to-order solutions and customer proposals
• 3+ years of quotation, estimating, proposal, or front-end engineering experience
• Experience reviewing single-line diagrams, customer specifications, and technical requirements
• Experience developing and selecting technical solutions based on customer requirements
• Strong commercial/business understanding with the ability to consider cost, technical requirements, and profitability
• Strong customer-facing communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Ability to travel up to 10–15%

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience with medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, or other power distribution equipment
• Experience with MV and/or LV electrical distribution systems
• Knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA standards
• Experience reviewing single-line diagrams, schematics, protection & control systems, and communication network drawings
• Experience within manufacturing, EPC, utility, industrial, or consulting engineering environments
• Previous experience leading or mentoring engineers
• Strong background in proposal engineering, estimating, equipment selection, and engineered-to-order electrical solutions

Job Description

Insight Global is looking for a Senior Proposal Engineer to support one of our large energy and infrastructure clients. This individual will lead the development of complex technical and commercial proposals for power distribution solutions supporting customers across the industrial, construction, and utility markets.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in application/proposal engineering, medium-voltage power distribution, switchgear, transformers, and engineered-to-order solutions who can translate customer requirements into technically sound and commercially competitive proposals.

Responsibilities-

• Review customer specifications, single-line diagrams, and technical requirements
• Develop complex technical and commercial proposals for power distribution solutions
• Define project scope and select/configure appropriate electrical equipment
• Create conceptual layouts and other engineering deliverables to communicate proposed solutions
• Work with Engineering, Procurement, Product, and Sales teams to develop optimized solutions
• Develop project estimates, cost models, and customer-facing proposal packages
• Support technical discussions with customers and serve as a technical resource to Sales and Business Development
• Balance technical requirements, cost, profitability, and customer needs
• Support successful handoff of awarded projects from the proposal stage into execution
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship while helping improve proposal and engineering processes
