Mid Level/Senior Application Security & Akamai Onboarding Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Akamai Engineer to lead the onboarding and security of applications onto the Akamai platform.

This person will be hands-on in Akamai, independently configuring CDN services, WAF policies, edge security controls, TLS, and origin protection. They will own applications through configuration, testing, troubleshooting, production cutover, and post-production support.

This is a hands-on engineering role, not primarily a project management or coordination position.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities -Onboard applications onto Akamai CDN and Edge services -Configure and manage Akamai Property Manager -Configure and tune WAF and edge security policies -Implement Origin Lockdown to protect backend applications -Configure and troubleshoot DNS, TLS/SSL, traffic routing, and application connectivity -Test Akamai configurations and move changes into production -Lead application cutovers, releases, rollback planning, and production validation -Identify and help remediate publicly exposed application origins -Partner with Application Security, Networking, Cloud, Infrastructure, and application teams -Provide technical guidance to application teams throughout the onboarding process

Skills and Requirements

-5+ years of hands-on Akamai engineering experience -Strong hands-on experience working directly within the Akamai portal -Strong experience with Akamai Property Manager -Experience onboarding applications onto Akamai CDN / Edge -Hands-on WAF configuration and policy management -Experience implementing Origin Lockdown -Strong knowledge of DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/SSL, reverse proxies, load balancing, and network troubleshooting -Application Security knowledge, including OWASP Top 10 and API Security -Experience supporting production releases and cutovers -Ability to independently troubleshoot Akamai, networking, -DNS, TLS, and application connectivity problems -Experience working across application, security, networking, and infrastructure teams Akamai Application & API Protector (AAP) Akamai Bot Manager Akamai API Security Akamai Edge DNS Imperva-to-Akamai or other CDN/edge migration experience F5 LTM experience AWS or GCP Kubernetes and API Gateway knowledge Python, REST APIs, Terraform, GitHub, or CI/CD Large-scale enterprise Akamai migrations Experience securing internet-facing applications Experience leading technical onboarding or migration initiatives
