Required Skills & Experience

Experience assembling and disassembling machinery or mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment Hands-on mechanical aptitude, including using hand tools and troubleshooting equipment Ability to take measurements, follow instructions/prints, and work safely in a production environment

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Machining or related technical certification Trade school, technical college, vocational training, or apprenticeship Several years of combined machining education and hands-on training Ability to operate a forklift or boom lift

Job Description

Dover Food Retail is seeking a Mechanical Technician/Machinist to work within its Richmond manufacturing operation. This position is responsible for setting up and operating manual machining equipment to manufacture precision metal parts and tooling. The machinist will make machine adjustments, establish proper setups, control material feed and cutting paths, inspect completed components, identify quality problems, and help ensure equipment operates efficiently.

Responsibilities

Determine machine setup positions using edge finders and mathematical calculations Set tooling and load machines

Set up and operate:

Manual milling machines Manual lathes Drill presses Manual surface grinders Adjust machines for speed, feed, material, and cutting path

Inspect completed parts using:

Micrometers Calipers Depth micrometers Complete required inspection data sheets Ensure manufactured pieces meet production and quality requirements Identify defects in raw materials and finished components Recommend machine or material adjustments when quality issues occur Deburr parts using appropriate tools and equipment Maintain machines and verify equipment is operating effectively Maintain an organized and clean work area Wash or polish finished components when required Perform additional production duties as assigned
