Infrastructure Engineer III

Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking an experienced Windows & Virtualization Infrastructure Engineer to join an enterprise infrastructure team responsible for supporting and evolving critical data center technologies. This position will focus on Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, compute, backup/data protection, and storage infrastructure.

The ideal candidate comes from an enterprise IT environment and has hands-on engineering experience across the infrastructure stack, rather than limited exposure to individual technologies. This person should be comfortable troubleshooting complex environments, supporting production infrastructure, and helping drive new technology implementations.

The organization is also undergoing a significant virtualization transformation, reducing its VMware footprint and moving toward Proxmox, so candidates should have strong virtualization fundamentals and an interest in working across evolving technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineer, administer, and support enterprise Windows Server and virtualization environments.
• Manage Active Directory, including domains, trusts, Sites & Services, domain controllers, and related troubleshooting.
• Administer virtualization environments and support the transition from VMware to Proxmox.
• Support enterprise compute infrastructure, including Cisco UCS.
• Manage backup and data protection solutions, including Veeam backup, recovery, and administration.
• Support SAN/storage environments, including Fibre Channel, NAS, and related infrastructure.
• Design, configure, and deploy infrastructure within new and existing data center environments.
• Monitor infrastructure performance, capacity, availability, and recovery.
• Collaborate with networking, security, and operations teams on infrastructure initiatives.
• Serve as an engineering-level escalation resource for complex infrastructure issues.
• Document system designs and configurations and mentor other team members in areas of expertise.

Skills and Requirements

• 6+ years of infrastructure engineering experience in an enterprise environment.
• Strong Windows Server administration and engineering experience.
• Advanced Active Directory administration and architecture, including Sites & Services, domains, trusts, and domain controller troubleshooting.
• Strong VMware administration and virtualization experience.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco UCS.
• Experience administering Veeam or comparable enterprise data protection solutions.
• Working knowledge of enterprise SAN/storage and Fibre Channel technologies.
• Hands-on data center and compute infrastructure experience.
• Strong TCP/IP and networking fundamentals.
• Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure environments independently.
• Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
• Proxmox experience or exposure.
• Hyper-V or additional virtualization platform experience.
• Linux/Unix administration.
• VDI experience.
• Cloud exposure, including AWS or Azure.
• Experience supporting medium-to-large enterprise IT environments
