Original job description
Required Skills & Experience
- Associate's/Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, EE Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Solid fundamentals in DC-DC regulators and LDOs - topologies, control loops, compensation, and the measurements that matter for each.
- Daily comfort operating an electrical lab bench: oscilloscope, DMM, programmable power supply, electronic load, function generator.
- Ability to read schematics and probe a board intelligently.
- Demonstrated bench debugging skills - a structured approach to narrowing down a power problem.
- Clear written and verbal communication. You'll often be the first to observe an issue, so describing what you measured, how, and what it implies is essential.
- Python scripting for test automation or data processing.
- Basic soldering and rework.
- Strong data hygiene - accurate, well-organized record keeping.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Experience validating PMICs or power ICs, including early-stage hardware.
- Hands-on with battery emulators and 4-quadrant source/sink supplies.
- NI-DAQ experience and automated power test frameworks.
- Spectrum analyzer use for noise, ripple spectrum, or EMI pre-screening.
- Thermal chamber characterization over temperature corners.
- SMUs and precision low-current measurement (sleep/quiescent current).
- Experience with small-form-factor, wearable, or battery-powered hardware development.
- Comfort in a fast-moving, iterative hardware development environment
Job Description
Insight Global is looking for a Hardware Validation Engineer to join of the world's leading social networking companies. This individual will work with the Reality Labs organization which helps people around the world come together through next generation Augmented, Mixed, and Virtual Reality. We're looking for a hands-on EE support team member who is in the lab every day, testing PMICs and voltage regulators in a smart glasses system. You'll validate DC-DC converters and LDOs, run bench measurements across operating conditions and corners, and turn raw data into clear results the design and validation teams can act on. This role suits someone methodical with data, confident debugging on the bench, and eager to deepen their power-electronics expertise. What You Will Do
- Bench bring-up and functional validation of PMICs and regulators - power-on, rail sequencing checks, register configuration, and functional testing of DC-DC converters and LDOs.
- Debug power issues at the bench - isolate root cause on unexpected rail behavior, startup failures, instability, and sequencing faults; communicate findings clearly and promptly to the design team.
- Characterize and benchmark power performance: efficiency curves, load and line regulation, output ripple and noise, transient/load-step response, quiescent current, PSRR, and thermal behavior.
- Measure battery, charging, and power-delivery behavior across operating conditions and corners using battery emulators and 4-quadrant supplies.
- Run characterization over temperature in thermal chambers, correlating rail behavior and efficiency across the operating range.
- Operate the full power bench daily: oscilloscopes, DMMs, programmable power supplies, 4-quadrant source/sink supplies, battery emulators, electronic loads, SMUs, NI-DAQ systems, function generators, spectrum analyzers, and precision current/power measurement rigs.
- Script test automation and data processing in Python - automate sweeps and logging, then clean and analyze the data into plots and summary reports.
- Build and maintain test fixtures - cabling, sense/Kelvin connections, and low-noise bench setups for accurate power measurement.
- Execute power test plans, log results, flag anomalies for review, and keep validation records and procedures current.
- Assist with board rework and soldering for debug and instrumentation.
- Track units, samples, and DUTs; maintain lab inventory and test logs.
Pay range: $85-95/hr
