Job Description
This person will serve as the Fire Safety Subject Matter Expert for utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), reviewing UL 9540A reports and providing guidance on fire safety system designs, code compliance, and overall BESS safety. They will oversee safety analyses including HMA, FMEA, heat flux analysis, and CFD simulations while ensuring projects comply with applicable UL, NFPA, and IFC standards. They will work closely with BESS manufacturers, project teams, fire marshals, fire departments, first responders, AHJs, and PUCs to educate stakeholders on BESS hazards, mitigation strategies, emergency response plans, and fire safety systems. The role will also involve traveling to local jurisdictions and community meetings to present on BESS safety, building relationships with fire safety organizations, and helping standardize fire safety practices and messaging across the organization. Additionally, they will participate in industry technical committees and help create standardized templates for third-party safety analyses and reporting to improve consistency across suppliers. This role pays $45-55/hour.
