Required Skills & Experience
B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience in chemical processing, industrial manufacturing, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, energy, nuclear, or similar industrial facilities. Experience designing industrial process equipment and piping systems. Experience developing equipment specifications, piping specifications, mechanical calculations, and procurement documentation. Experience reviewing fabrication drawings and vendor documentation. Experience supporting construction, installation, commissioning, and startup activities. Experience working with pressure vessels, piping systems, rotating equipment, utility systems, and industrial process equipment. Familiarity with ASME codes, pressure vessel design, piping standards, and industrial mechanical systems. Experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Plant3D, Revit, or similar engineering software. Nuclear industry or fuel cycle experience is preferred but not required.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Approximately 10 years of relevant experience is preferred; however, candidates with fewer years of experience will be considered when they demonstrate the technical capability and judgment to perform the work. Experience in a chemical process industry or chemical processing facility environment. Experience with Revit. Skills in comparable CAD or facility design tools are transferable, but Revit is the preferred platform for this project. Familiarity with ASME codes, pressure vessel concepts, piping standards, and industrial mechanical systems. Direct pressure-vessel or relief-system design experience is beneficial but not required. Experience supporting facility design, major capital projects, construction, commissioning, startup, or operational readiness. Nuclear industry, nuclear fuel cycle, or fuel manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join the owner’s design team supporting the design, construction, commissioning, and startup of the TRISO Fuels Facility. Working primarily from the Albuquerque design office during the initial phase, this individual will translate process and operational requirements into practical, maintainable, and constructible facility-level mechanical solutions across HVAC, chilled water, piping, utilities, equipment, and supporting infrastructure. The Mechanical Engineer will provide design inputs and documentation to engineering contractors; develop and maintain PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, datasheets, technical packages, and procurement documentation; review contractor and vendor designs for compliance with project requirements; coordinate mechanical interfaces across engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations teams; support equipment selection, purchasing, testing, installation, startup, and turnover; and independently lead smaller engineering projects. The role emphasizes overall facility and system design rather than detailed component or individual skid design and requires strong engineering judgment, initiative, technical communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a multidisciplinary project environment. Pay ranges from $50-65/hr depending on experience.
