Data Platform Architect

Required Skills & Experience

7+ years experience leading a large enterprise cloud/data migration at a financial company, ideally involving hundreds of terabytes or petabytes of data. Strong hands-on knowledge of: Databricks, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, AWS Experience moving data off legacy platforms like Vertica, Hadoop, Teradata, Oracle, Snowflake, or something comparable. Strong development background with Java, Python, SQL, or similar object-oriented languages.

Job Description

A large financial company is looking for a senior-level Data Platform Architect to help lead a major modernization of an enterprise data environment. The main goal is to help define what the future data platform should look like and lead the transition from large, legacy on-prem environments into the cloud. This person needs to have done a large-scale data modernization or cloud migration before, ideally in a complex enterprise environment. They’ll work closely with engineering, infrastructure, security, architecture, and business teams to determine the right technologies, architecture, and migration strategy. This resource will be: o Designing the future-state architecture for the company’s data platforms. o Helping lead large migrations from on-prem systems into AWS/cloud environments. o Building architecture that can handle extremely large amounts of data. o Establishing standards and best practices around data engineering, governance, security, and monitoring. o Evaluating technologies for data storage, processing, streaming, and analytics. o Providing technical direction to teams working with Databricks, Spark, Kafka, and AWS. o Making sure the environment is scalable, reliable, cost-effective, and performing well. o Helping leadership understand migration plans, risks, timelines, and overall modernization strategy.
