Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Building Engineer for a top commercial real estate and facilities management client in San Diego. This individual will be responsible for the hands-on operation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, lighting, pumping, and other critical building systems. The Building Engineer will perform equipment rounds, monitor BAS/BMS alarms, troubleshoot water-source heat pumps and computer-room cooling equipment, diagnose electrical and lighting failures, complete appropriate in-kind replacements, support boilers, and chilled-water systems, and manage preventative and corrective work through the CMMS. A major goal of this position is to help transition the facilities team into a more technically capable, self-performing engineering team. Rather than automatically outsourcing routine electrical, HVAC, lighting, and mechanical issues, this person should be comfortable diagnosing problems and safely completing reasonable electrical repairs in-house, including common replacements involving 120V, 208V, and 277V systems. The goal is to reduce unnecessary vendor calls, increase self-performance, improve response times, and lower costs for the customer. Major replacements, project-level work, and repairs outside the team's capabilities will continue to be handled by qualified vendors. The ideal candidate will therefore combine strong hands-on electrical and HVAC troubleshooting skills with excellent safety judgment, including knowing when to complete a repair independently and when to stop, escalate, and engage a vendor.
