Description ICM Solutions is a growing, multi-state organization with a strong regional footprint and a leading reputation for delivering exceptional equipment and service solutions across the industrial, crushing, and mining markets. We are seeking a skilled structural steel Sawyer & Material Cutter to be responsible for the precise layout, measurement, and cutting of raw steel stock for fabrication projects.

The ideal candidate has significant experience operating a variety of metal-cutting saws, is highly proficient in interpreting engineering blueprints, and has a strong focus on accuracy, material optimization, and safety. This role is a critical first step in the fabrication process and requires close collaboration with the fabrication and welding teams. The Sawyer & Material Cutter is safety-focused and committed to continuous improvement and team development.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Blueprint and Specification Interpretation:

  • Read, understand, and work from complex blueprints, cut sheets, and engineering specifications to determine the correct materials, dimensions, and angles for all cuts.
  • Assess drawings for potential errors or discrepancies and communicate findings to supervisors or engineers for clarification.

Material Preparation and Layout:

  • Accurately measure and lay out dimensions and reference lines on steel stock, including beams, channels, and plates, using scribes, rulers, squares, and protractors.
  • Strategically plan cut sequences to maximize material yield and minimize scrap waste.

Saw Operations:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of metal-cutting saws, such as CNC band saws, miter saws, and shears, to cut materials to exact specifications.
  • Monitor machine operations, adjusting speed and tension to ensure proper and safe performance.

Material Handling and Inspection:

  • Safely use material handling equipment, such as overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts, to load and unload steel stock onto saw tables.
  • Conduct initial inspections of raw stock for defects or imperfections and inspect completed cuts to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality.

Quality and Safety:

  • Perform all duties in strict adherence to company and OSHA safety protocols, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are stored properly.

Requirements

Experience: Proven experience as a saw operator or material cutter in a structural steel fabrication or manufacturing environment.

Technical Skills:

  • High level of proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints and cut sheets.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to work with fractions and decimals.
  • Knowledge of various metal types (e.g., steel, aluminum, stainless steel) and their characteristics.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical strength and stamina for a physically active role that includes standing for long periods and moving heavy materials.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail for performing accurate work and quality checks.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors.

Why ICM Solutions?

  • Fast-growing company with big ambitions: to be the best crushing, underground mining rebuild, and white paving dealer in North America.
  • Strong, people-focused culture where your work truly makes an impact.
  • Competitive benefits: vacation, sick time, medical/dental/vision/life insurance, 401(k) with company match, and more.
