JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, testing, and support of complex electrical and electronic systems used in company products. This position serves as a senior technical contributor throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept and requirements development through design, production, field support, and continuous improvement. The Senior Electrical Engineer works as part of a cross-functional engineering team including Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Systems, Manufacturing, Quality, and Service personnel. This position independently leads complex electrical design activities, supports system integration and troubleshooting, provides technical guidance to less experienced personnel, and ensures designs meet applicable product, safety, regulatory, performance, and manufacturability requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Including but not limited to:
- Develop electrical and electronic concepts, architectures, designs, and technical solutions for new and existing products.
- Translate customer, product, and system requirements into electrical hardware requirements, subsystem architectures, interface specifications, and detailed designs.
- Lead electrical design activities throughout the full product development lifecycle, including concept development, prototyping, design, integration, verification, validation, production implementation, and product support.
- Design and develop electrical circuits, printed circuit boards, cable assemblies, interconnects, safety circuits, power distribution systems, motor controls, and related electrical subsystems.
- Select and specify electrical and electronic components based on functional, performance, reliability, availability, regulatory, and cost requirements.
- Develop and integrate new electrical subsystem architectures into new and existing product platforms.
- Perform engineering analyses, trade studies, modeling, simulation, calculations, and other evaluations necessary to predict system performance and optimize designs.
- Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept designs to evaluate technical approaches and reduce development risk.
- Lead electrical system integration, testing, troubleshooting, verification, and validation activities.
- Diagnose complex electrical, electronic, and electromechanical system failures and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ensure electrical designs meet applicable safety, regulatory, and product compliance requirements, including UL, CE, and other applicable standards.
- Coordinate and provide technical support for third-party testing conducted by Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories and other certification organizations.
- Develop test plans, test procedures, acceptance criteria, and engineering documentation necessary to verify electrical system performance.
- Work closely with Software and Mechanical Engineering to ensure appropriate integration of electrical hardware, controls, software, mechanical systems, and system interfaces.
- Support Manufacturing Engineering and Production with design implementation, assembly issues, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
- Support Quality and Service in investigating and resolving electrical and system-level product issues.
- Evaluate existing product designs and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, safety, and cost.
- Research emerging technologies, components, and engineering methods for potential application to current and future products.
- Develop prototype and production cost estimates and provide technical input to design and sourcing decisions.
- Create, review, and maintain schematics, drawings, bills of materials, specifications, engineering reports, test documentation, and other controlled technical records.
- Support engineering change and document control processes throughout the product lifecycle.
- Participate in and lead design reviews and technical reviews as appropriate.
- Identify technical risks and recommend appropriate design or mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Electrical Engineers, junior engineers, interns, technicians, and other technical personnel.
- Review the work of less experienced engineering personnel and provide technical feedback and direction as appropriate.
- May serve as electrical technical lead for product development projects, design changes, or cross-functional engineering initiatives.
- May include other duties as assigned and/or special projects.
