Operations Manager

Summary:

The position will administer Hydro Resources - Rocky Mountain policies and procedures to establish and promote safe and healthy working conditions while ensuring compliance with all OSHA & DOT regulations and Hydro Resources - Rocky Mountain Safety Program requirements. The Operations Manager provides strong leadership, operational discipline, and continuous improvement across our drilling and pump service teams. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing daily operations, driving accountability, developing talent, and delivering consistent, high-quality results across multiple crews and projects. The role focuses on bringing structure to scheduling, logistics, and field execution while eliminating reactive decision-making. The Operations Manager serves as a skilled problem-solver and mentor who builds effective systems, troubleshoots complex downhole and equipment issues, and maintains clear communication between field crews and management. This is a high-impact leadership position centered on optimizing processes, developing people, and elevating overall operational performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily drilling operations and pump department operations.
  • Coordinate logistics, equipment mobilization, and resource planning to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Spot issues quickly, troubleshoot downhole problems, fishing jobs, equipment failures, and field challenges, then implement lasting process fixes.
  • Think analytically: identify root causes, develop clear strategies, and communicate plans effectively to crews and supervisors so problems do not recur.
  • Keep upper management informed with timely, honest, and transparent updates - no spin, no surprises.
  • Continually seek and implement improvements, including new drilling technologies, tools, and operational efficiencies.
  • Maintain high standards for organization, safety, and performance across all operations.
  • Set clear expectations, follow up consistently, and hold team members accountable while providing coaching and support.
  • Work closely with the Hydro Resources - Rocky team on broader operational improvements.
  • Bring discipline to scheduling, labor, and material planning while eliminating reactive decision-making and operational drift.
  • Develop and mentor junior leaders.
  • Provide structure and operational experience to support and strengthen the pump service department.
  • Drive continuous improvement across drilling and pump operations, including adoption of new technology and smarter efficiencies.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in water well drilling or closely related operations.
  • Proven experience managing multiple crews and full drilling operations (beyond just running a single rig).
  • Strong technical troubleshooting background, particularly with downhole issues, fishing operations, Kelly & top drive rigs, well planning, and pump systems.
  • Exposure to pump service/installation is a significant plus.
  • Solid understanding of safe operating practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel for tracking/reporting), inventory management software, and tracking/logistics tools.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle urgent situations, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting CapEx projects or capital-intensive operations.
  • Familiarity with hot shot trucking, intercompany logistics, and regulatory filings.
  • Previous exposure to process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) or cost-control initiatives.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed mainly in the office and field. Some Travel required.
  • Normal work hours are Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
