Custodial: Grounds

Position is open until filled. Groundskeeper Primary Function: USD 258 Humboldt Schools is seeking a dedicated and dependable Groundskeeper to maintain and improve the school district’s grounds and outdoor facilities. This individual plays a key role in providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Reports To: Director of Operations Pay Rate: Hourly Classification Full-Time, Non-Exempt General Expectations Perform routine landscaping and grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, raking, fertilizing, watering, planting, and weeding. Maintain athletic fields, playgrounds, and outdoor recreational areas, ensuring they are safe and properly marked/prepared for use. Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and tractors. Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots, and entryways during inclement weather. Assist with exterior repairs and seasonal maintenance tasks (e.g., tree pruning, irrigation repairs). Inspect grounds and outdoor facilities regularly and report/correct any safety hazards or maintenance needs. Set up for outdoor events as needed (e.g., graduation, athletic competitions). Follow all district safety protocols and procedures. Provide in-district mail service around the district during the school year. Work as part of the custodial team when needed. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or related field preferred. Ability to operate groundskeeping tools and machinery safely and effectively. Physically capable of performing outdoor work in various weather conditions, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing or walking for extended periods. Possess or be willing to obtain a valid Kansas driver’s license. Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
