ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

A heavy machinery manufacturer serving the commercial marine, defense and mining industries is adding a CNC Machinist on night shift. The company has been building heavy equipment in the Kansas City area for decades and carries a large backlog of marine and defense work. This is real heavy machining, not fixture work: you will run large horizontal mills and set up large workpieces using 3-point setups with parts held in a relaxed state.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Perform all machine operating duties on large horizontal mills and related equipment
  • Review drawings and blueprints and work from them accurately
  • Program and edit CNC machines
  • Set up large workpieces per work instructions using 3-point setups and parts in a relaxed state, and suggest improvements
  • Set up material and tooling with minimal supervision
  • Inspect work with ID/OD micrometers and calipers
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Experience operating large horizontal CNC mills, including setting up large workpieces
  • Familiarity with 3-point setups and setting parts in a relaxed state
  • Fanuc controls, including older 18M and newer 30iB
  • Able to read and understand drawings
  • Able to read ID/OD micrometers and calipers
  • Solid fundamentals of workpiece setup
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently on nights
  • Okuma experience a plus
  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident)

BENEFITS

  • Health, dental, vision, HSA and FSA
  • Supplemental insurance through Aflac
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Paid time off

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Heavy manufacturing shop floor around large machinery and large-scale parts
  • Standard PPE required
  • Shop is hot in summer and cold in winter
  • Standing for long periods; climbing, stooping and carrying materials
  • Safety-sensitive position
