Original job description

At Hidden Level, we build software that connects the physical world to actionable intelligence. Our RF sensing technology helps protect troops, secure critical infrastructure, and enable smarter cities by delivering real-time airspace awareness for defense and commercial applications.

Position Overview

Help solve challenging problems in Counter Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) and Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM). You’ll work across device integration, backend services, databases, and customer-facing applications to turn sensor data into information people can use.

Your work could involve integrating a camera or other advanced sensor, developing services that process device data, designing queries that reveal meaningful patterns, or deploying application capabilities in the cloud. You’ll collaborate with engineers across disciplines and own features from initial design through testing and deployment.

Location: On-site in Syracuse, NY

We’re looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer who enjoys working with physical devices and building the applications that make their data useful. If you’re interested in working with cameras, radars, and other advanced systems, analyzing data, and developing cloud-scalable applications, this role offers opportunities across that entire spectrum.

Responsibilities

  • Connect devices to applications. Develop software that integrates cameras, radars, and distributed sensors with the services and applications that use their data.
  • Turn data into insight. Build backend services, analytics, and application features that help users understand sensor data.
  • Build and operate in the cloud. Develop and maintain applications using containerization technologies targeting deployment in AWS and other cloud services.

SAFETY THROUGH SENSING

  • Improve products people depend on. Expand our enterprise tools and customer-facing products, supporting secure communication and reliable data synchronization.
  • Own features from idea to deployment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, evaluate tradeoffs, and deliver working solutions.
  • Build quality into your work. Participate in design and code reviews, document technical decisions, and test software for correctness and reliability.

What we’re looking for

You’re curious about how systems work, from a device on a network to the database and application behind it. You take initiative, communicate clearly, and enjoy solving problems that cross software and hardware boundaries.

You bring:

  • A self-motivated, goal-oriented approach and a desire to take ownership of your work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot under pressure.
  • Clear verbal and written communication.
  • A track record of delivering high-quality software and following through on commitments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a strong software architecture background.
  • At least three years of related professional experience.
  • Strong programming skills in our stack and experience with or a willingness to learn new languages.
  • Experience developing and working in Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, S3, and Lambda.
  • Solid understanding of SQL databases, such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, and database design principles.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous messaging technologies and secure protocols such as SSH, HTTP, and TLS.
  • Experience with or an interest in learning about distributed sensor networks.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Our stack includes Python, Flask, a myriad of AWS products, SQL databases, Dart, and JavaScript, with opportunities to work in C++ and Linux-based sensor environments.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants and agentic AI workflows to support software design, development, testing, debugging, or documentation.
  • Ability to guide AI agents through complex tasks, provide useful context and constraints, and evaluate their output through code review and testing.
  • Interest in helping shape practical AI development practices that improve productivity while maintaining software quality, security, and engineering accountability.
