Here's what a day on this job looks like.

You pick your shift: mornings run 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., evenings run 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. You hop in your spotter unit and start moving trailers around the yard for a dedicated customer. Between yard moves, you run local loads. The freight is all no-touch, so your job is driving and positioning trailers, not unloading them. When your shift ends, you're home.

Weekends are usually yours, and holidays are rarely worked unless customer freight demands it. Hours flex a little between peak and non-peak seasons, so expect some adjustment during the busy stretches.

On pay, you earn $28.00 an hour, with hours over 40 paid at straight time. Most drivers take home $1,000 to $1,200 a week, which is roughly $52,000 to $62,400 a year.
