Position Summary

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants to build something. As HGP opens a new location, the Operations Manager will run the day-to-day branch operation while also driving a delivery route and installing and servicing equipment at customer sites. You will be the face of HGP in this market, making sure customers get their gas deliveries on time, their equipment works, and the branch runs safely and efficiently.

This role is a good fit for someone who has driven a Class B route, knows their way around beverage systems or gas equipment, and is ready to take on more responsibility. As the branch grows, the focus will shift more toward managing people and operations, with less time behind the wheel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Branch Operations Management

  • Oversee daily branch operations, including route planning, delivery scheduling, inventory, and cylinder and bulk tank management
  • Help open and set up the new location, including warehouse layout, cylinder storage, equipment, and vehicle readiness
  • Monitor inventory levels of CO2, nitrogen, beverage gas blends, helium, medical oxygen, and other products, and coordinate replenishment with suppliers and other HGP branches
  • Track cylinder and asset counts, rentals, and returns to keep records accurate
  • Keep the branch clean, organized, and in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety requirements
  • Work with corporate teams in HR, Finance & Customer Operations, and Safety & Risk Management on staffing, billing, customer issues, and safety programs
  • Report on branch activity, deliveries, service calls, and key metrics to leadership
  • Build relationships with customers in the area and support sales and growth in the market

People Leadership (as the branch grows)

  • Take part in hiring, onboarding, and training new team members
  • Lead, coach, and support drivers and installers (to be hired as the business supports it)
  • Set schedules, approve time, and make sure the team follows company policies and safety practices
  • Address performance and attendance concerns with support from HR

CDL Driving and Delivery

  • Safely operate a Class B commercial vehicle to deliver and pick up cylinders and fill bulk CO2 systems at customer locations
  • Load, unload, and secure cylinders and equipment using hand trucks, lift gates, and other equipment
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, driver logs, and all required DOT and hazmat paperwork
  • Follow hazardous materials handling, placarding, and transportation regulations
  • Provide friendly, professional service to customers at every stop

Installation and Service

  • Install, repair, and maintain beverage systems, including bulk CO2 tanks, regulators, gas lines, and related equipment
  • Install and service ice machines and other beverage equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and explain solutions clearly to customers
  • Perform leak checks and confirm systems are operating safely before leaving a site
  • Respond to service calls, including occasional after-hours or on-call support as needed
  • Complete service tickets and documentation accurately and on time

Other

  • Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Class B CDL (or higher) with Hazmat endorsement, or currently in the process of obtaining the Hazmat endorsement
  • Current DOT medical card and the ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
  • Clean driving record that meets company and insurance requirements
  • 2+ years of commercial driving experience, preferably on a local delivery route
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience installing or servicing equipment
  • Experience leading a team, a shift, or a project, or a clear readiness to step into leadership
  • Comfortable working independently and making decisions without daily on-site supervision
  • Basic computer skills for email, scheduling, route software, and reporting
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred

  • Experience with beverage systems, bulk CO2, compressed gases, or ice machines
  • Experience in industrial gas, beverage, food service, or a related distribution business
  • Prior supervisory or branch management experience
  • Knowledge of DOT and hazardous materials regulations
  • Familiarity with the local market and customer base

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Regularly lift, move, and secure cylinders and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs, and maneuver heavier cylinders with hand trucks and other equipment
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing in and out of a truck, and working in tight spaces such as basements, coolers, and back rooms
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots
  • Schedule is primarily daytime, Monday through Friday, with occasional early starts, late days, weekends, or on-call service as business needs require

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • The chance to help build and lead a new HGP location
  • A family-founded company that has been growing since 1983
