Role Description
The Senior Business Systems Analyst serves as the bridge between business stakeholders and our data platform. This role owns requirements and data definitions for reporting and AI-enabled workflows. This role requires knowledge of Microsoft cloud data platforms. You will work directly with Finance, Operations, Marketing, Supply Chain, and other partners to turn ambiguous asks into well-scoped and governed documentation. This role supports a multi-brand restaurant portfolio spanning over 1,000 locations; candidates who understand the rhythm of a multi-unit hospitality operation, daily sales and labor cycles, period-based financial calendars, and above-store versus in-restaurant reporting needs are preferred.
- Partner with business stakeholders to elicit, document and prioritize requirements for analytics, reporting, and data integration initiatives.
- Facilitate requirements gathering sessions, workshops, and stakeholder interviews.
- Assist with scope definition, impact assessments, and risk identification.
- Collaborate with solution architects, developers, and vendors on system design and configuration decisions.
- Translate business processes into functional specifications, data mappings, source-to-target documentation, and acceptance criteria. Identify and deliver practical AI use cases using Microsoft Copilot (M365, Power BI, Fabric) and evaluate emerging capabilities against real business workflows.
- Support data governance and cataloging efforts - business glossary, data definitions, lineage, and metadata quality in tools such as Unity Catalog and/or Microsoft Purview.
- Conduct data profiling and validation to confirm accuracy.
- Support organizational change management and user adoption initiatives.
- Develop deep working knowledge of restaurant domain data - POS/sales transactions, labor and scheduling, food and beverage cost, loyalty program, and above-store operational metrics.
- Provide production support for analytics assets, including root cause analysis on data quality and refresh failures.
- Contribute to platform cost awareness - capacity utilization, refresh scheduling, and workload optimization.
- Other responsibilities as determined by leadership.
Skills & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience. BA required
- 5+ years as a Business Systems Analyst, Data Analyst, or in a similar role supporting enterprise data and reporting. Is this more of a BA or DA role?
- Strong query skills in SQL and Python with experience profiling source data and validating transformations.
- Hands-on Power BI experience: semantic modeling, DAX, workspace management, and report design (or a comparable BI platform such as Tableau, Looker, or OAS/OBIEE).
- Working knowledge of Azure data services (Data Factory, Data Lake Storage, Databricks, and Microsoft Fabric). Nice to have or required
- Demonstrated experience applying Microsoft Copilot or comparable AI tooling to business or analytics workflows.
- Proven ability to write clear business requirements, functional specifications, data dictionaries, and process documentation.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional business and technical teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong facilitation and requirements elicitation skills.
- Excellent verbal, written and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work onsite a minimum of three days per week, with flexibility for additional onsite days during key project phases, releases, and business planning cycles.
- Direct experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry, including familiarity with POS platforms, restaurant financial reporting (period/week calendars, comp sales, cost of sales), labor management systems, or guest loyalty and CRM data.
- Familiarity with data governance and privacy frameworks (Purview, CCPA/CPRA, records retention).
- Experience with Agile delivery, Azure DevOps, and iterative requirements practices.
