  • Voltage drop calculations
  • Conductor ampacity calculations
  • Grounding and protection studies
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and applicable electrical engineering standards.
  • Evaluate electrical equipment specifications, system configurations, and design requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and resolve complex engineering challenges throughout design and construction.

Project Coordination and Technical Support

  • Coordinate with utilities, clients, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Collaborate with internal project teams to ensure engineering designs align with project requirements, construction methods, and schedules.
  • Support technical evaluations and engineering decisions throughout project development and execution.
  • Assist department leadership in evaluating engineering resource requirements and project planning needs.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to obtain licensure in applicable project jurisdictions.
  • 8+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including technical leadership and Engineer of Record responsibilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems, including 5 kV–35 kV applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in power system analysis, protective device coordination, short-circuit calculations, arc flash studies, grounding, and conductor ampacity.
  • Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and applicable electrical engineering standards.
  • Experience overseeing and reviewing the work of electrical engineers and designers.
  • Proficiency with electrical analysis software such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or data center projects.
  • Ability to independently evaluate complex engineering problems and develop technically sound solutions.
  • Strong communication, technical leadership, and mentoring capabilities. Why Hays Electrical Services
