Title HMS - Associate in Genetics

School Harvard Medical School

Department/Area Genetics

Position Description The Perrimon Lab at the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School conducts research on the genetic and molecular mechanisms that regulate metabolism and other biological processes. The group uses Drosophila models and interdisciplinary experimental and computational approaches to investigate metabolic regulation and characterize molecular processes at the tissue level, including through spatial metabolomics and spatial transcriptomics.

The Associate will support ongoing research in spatial metabolomics and spatial transcriptomics through hands-on experimental work and data analysis. Responsibilities include Drosophila tissue collection and dissection, tissue preparation and staining, nucleic acid extraction, molecular biology procedures, and other laboratory techniques supporting spatial metabolomics and related molecular profiling experiments. The individual will also assist with sample and dataset organization, basic data quality assessment and visualization, established computational analyses, and preparation of figures and data summaries. The Associate will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator and senior laboratory members to carry out assigned research activities, optimize established experimental procedures, troubleshoot experiments, maintain accurate and organized documentation, and communicate research progress in laboratory meetings. The role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with a degree of independence on assigned tasks within a collaborative research environment.
