Construction Engineer

Midwest multi-disciplined engineering firm is looking to add a Construction Engineer to their Peoria team!

Responsibilities:

• Conduct on-site observation of work, repairs, and testing, as needed
• Make recommended alterations to development/design to improve the quality of projects
• Prepare project scope, fees and Work Order documents to IDOT
• Manage multiple small/large projects successfully
• Monitor progress schedule and shop drawings
• Provide general civil engineering and municipal client service
• Effectively communicate (both oral and written) with residents, businesses, and public agency representatives.
• Resolve construction conflicts and prepare cost-effective solutions
• Serve as liaison with contractor, working principally through contractor’s superintendent
• Maintain job site records of Daily Reports, job meeting minutes, approved shop drawing submittals, and pay requests
• Manage steps necessary to make change orders (records of time, equipment, and material needs)
• Review and request adjustments of compensation and/or contract time
• Prepare payment estimates
• Address resident complaints/concerns
• Coordinate with the contractor and other duties as needed or assigned.
• Mentor/train junior staff

Requirements:

• B.S.

Degree in Civil/Construction Engineering from an accredited program

• 8+ years’ IDOT construction or municipal work experience
• Sufficient computer and smartphone skills for file access, use, and effective operation and communication
• Ability to travel throughout the region with own transportation
• Handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities independently
• PE License preferred

Salary is commensurate with experience.
