Original job description

Summary

Join Guidewire's Cloud Data Platform (CDP) team, a group dedicated to building and operating our enterprise-grade, cloud-native data and analytics platform for P&C insurers. The team builds and operates the platform foundation that CDP's data and analytics services run on: the integration and service-intelligence APIs that hold CDP metadata and orchestrate multi-tenant service deployment, the infrastructure-as-code provisioning that onboards single-tenant services across many AWS accounts and regions, the CI/CD orchestration used by CDP projects, and the observability services (logging, metrics, health monitoring) that keep the platform reliable. Our collaborative, innovative environment values curiosity, technical excellence, and a passion for solving complex challenges.

As a Software Engineer, you will design and develop scalable platform services, cloud automation, and infrastructure as code in the public cloud. We seek expertise in AWS, Python, and IaC-based infrastructure automation to help us deliver transformative innovation and operational excellence. This is an opportunity to shape the future of insurance technology, working on projects that drive measurable value and efficiency for our customers and support Guidewire's mission to transform the industry through AI, cloud, and data platform adoption.

Job Description

What you'll do

Design, build, and operate platform services and integration APIs - in Python - that provide CDP metadata, service-health status, and service intelligence, and that orchestrate multi-tenant service deployment and the registration of data products.
Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) to provision and manage CDP platform infrastructure (IAM, networking, compute, serverless, data stores) across multiple AWS accounts and regions.
Automate single-tenant service onboarding and monitoring and observability provisioning (monitoring agents, serverless collectors) for CDP environments.
Build event-driven, serverless automation on AWS (Lambda, S3, API Gateway) - for example registry systems that automatically track and index environment and infrastructure configurations.
Own CI/CD orchestration for CDP projects: GitHub Actions–based automation, as well as TeamCity pipelines authored in Kotlin DSL and shared metarunners.
Build and operate CDP's observability platform services - log aggregation, metrics collection, heartbeat/health monitoring, and Elasticsearch/Kibana (Elastic Cloud) content managed as code.
Build, publish, and maintain the Docker images and containerized workloads (ECS/EKS) that support CDP infrastructure and logging needs.
Practice AI-assisted, spec-driven development: capture intent in requirements, design, task, and architecture decision documents; maintain durable steering context; and apply AI tooling throughout the software development lifecycle to drive productivity and quality.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, efficient, and innovative solutions that align with Guidewire's product and customer goals, and participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and monitoring.
Support team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
At Guidewire, we foster a culture of curiosity, innovation, and responsible use of AI - empowering our teams to continuously leverage emerging technologies and data-driven insights to enhance productivity and outcomes.

What you'll bring Required

Bachelor’s / Master's or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field and one year of software engineering experience.
Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your current role - including AI-assisted development workflows - as well as data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.
Excellent programming skills in Python; experience with Go, Java, or Kotlin is also valuable.
Hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, S3, IAM, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, RDS/Aurora, and CloudWatch.
Experience designing, building, and operating CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, TeamCity, or similar).
Comfortable working with Docker, container orchestration (ECS or Kubernetes/EKS), and Git/GitHub; familiarity with Jira.
Understanding of distributed systems and reliability concepts (availability, durability, fault tolerance) and of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization.
Eagerness to learn new technologies and a passion for innovation.

Preferred

Proven experience building and operating cloud infrastructure with Terraform and/or Terragrunt, ideally across multiple AWS accounts and regions.
Experience managing Elasticsearch/Kibana (Elastic Cloud) or other search/observability stacks as code.
SQL skills and experience with relational databases (e.g., Aurora PostgreSQL), including schema migrations.
Experience with serverless and event-driven architectures in production.
Experience in the insurance or SaaS industry, or familiarity with Guidewire Cloud.

Your Impact We believe in clarity and setting you up for success. In your first six months, you'll collaborate with talented engineers to deliver new capabilities and enhancements for Guidewire's cloud-native data platform, directly supporting our priorities of operational excellence and transformative innovation. You'll help automate tenant onboarding, strengthen the platform's CI/CD and observability foundations, improve platform reliability, and drive measurable value for our customers. Your work will influence the future of insurance technology, empower customers with actionable insights, and contribute to Guidewire's mission of delivering secure, scalable, and innovative solutions worldwide.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $86,000 - $164,000. Your base pay will depend on your experience, skills, education, training, and location among other factors. All full-time positions or part-time roles working 30 hours or more a week at Guidewire are eligible for benefits that support their health and well-being including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and a company sponsored retirement plan. In addition, some roles may be eligible for the annual company bonus plan, commissions, and/or long term incentive awards which are contingent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, company and employee performance.
