Position Overview
The Global Procurement Manager, Electrical reports to the Director of Global Sourcing & Procurement and owns the electrical category from strategy development through purchasing execution, ensuring uninterrupted material flow to production. The category includes switchgear, breakers, transformers, cable and wire, busway, power distribution, UPS, controls, and components.
This role leads sourcing initiatives and RFx processes, negotiates pricing and contracts, and manages supplier relationships, performance, and risk. The manager partners with Planning, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Finance to align procurement activities with production schedules, working capital targets, and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Category Strategy & Spend Management
- Own the global electrical category strategy across all plants: spend analysis, supplier segmentation, consolidation for leverage, and sourcing plans by sub-category
- Set the distributor versus direct-OEM strategy and make-versus-buy recommendations for assemblies such as panels and busway with Engineering and Operations
- Monitor market conditions, technology roadmaps, lead times, and commodity pricing (copper, steel, electronics) and adjust strategy ahead of change
- Build should-cost models and total cost of ownership analysis to guide sourcing and negotiation decisions
- Deliver annual cost savings, cost avoidance, and productivity targets tracked with Finance
RFx, Negotiation & Contracts
- Lead multi-site RFI, RFP, and RFQ events for electrical material; evaluate proposals on total cost, lead time, capacity, quality, and risk
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead-time commitments, and annual cost improvement with key suppliers
- Put master purchase agreements, NDAs, and frame agreements in place before business starts; include price indexing for copper-based products where appropriate
- Lead commercial issue resolution, claims, and recovery with suppliers; escalate within delegated authority
Material Continuity & Purchasing Operations
- Lead daily purchasing operations for the electrical category across plants; set priorities aligned to production demand and customer commitments
- Manage long-lead and allocated items (switchgear, transformers, breakers, UPS) with forward buys, primary and secondary sources, and supplier capacity commitments
- Prevent shortages affecting production schedules, launches, or customer deliveries; run the shortage escalation process with Planning and Operations
- Use ERP/MRP signals to drive replenishment timing and own purchasing parameters (lead times, order quantities, safety stock) for the category
- Provide functional direction to buyers and purchasing coordinators working the electrical category
Supplier Performance & Risk
- Manage supplier performance on cost, quality, delivery, responsiveness, and lead-time adherence; run supplier scorecards and quarterly business reviews with Supplier Quality
- Develop alternate sources, dual-source strategies, and supplier recovery plans; maintain a supplier risk map for critical electrical items
- Monitor tariff, trade compliance, and logistics risk; flow down DFARS, ITAR, and customer requirements where applicable
- Support supplier qualification for listed assemblies and components (UL, NEC, IEC requirements) with Supplier Quality and Engineering
Inventory, Working Capital & KPIs
- Partner with Planning and Operations to balance inventory turns, stock availability, and working capital objectives for electrical material
- Improve supplier on-time delivery, shortage counts, aged and excess inventory, and purchase price variance; own the category KPI dashboard
- Rationalize supply models (VMI, consignment, kanban, safety stock) with suppliers and plants
- Coordinate with the reverse supply chain program on returns, excess, and obsolete electrical material
Engineering & New Product Introduction
- Partner with Engineering on technical sourcing, standardization, approved alternates, and value engineering
- Ensure supplier readiness for new product introductions and launches: capacity, lead time, PPAP or first article with Supplier Quality, and target cost
- Bring supplier and market insight into design reviews and bills of material
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Finance on accruals, savings tracking, payment issues, and inventory valuation impacts
- Coordinate with Warehouse and Receiving on inbound flow, packaging, and supplier execution issues
- Support leadership on escalations, supply constraints, and strategic sourcing initiatives; present category performance to executives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 6–10+ years of purchasing, procurement, or category management experience in manufacturing, industrial, or engineered-to-order environments
- 3+ years owning an electrical, power distribution, or electronics category or commodity
- Multi-site purchasing experience preferred
- Experience supporting modular manufacturing, fabrication, electrical integration, data center infrastructure, or power systems preferred
- CPSM, C.P.M., APICS CPIM, or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred
- Working knowledge of electrical equipment and components: switchgear, breakers, transformers, cable and wire, busway, PDUs, UPS, controls; reads specifications and single-line drawings
- Strong negotiation and contract skills: master agreements, terms, price indexing, and claims
- Should-cost, total cost of ownership, and spend analytics; advanced Excel; Power BI a plus
- Strong ERP/MRP experience (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar)
Travel to plants and suppliers as needed (typically 10–20%)
