Overview
A fast-growing boutique CPA firm serving Chicago and the North Shore is seeking an experienced Tax Manager in Northbrook for a high-impact, partner-track role. You will work directly with the firm’s partners, lead and mentor a team and build lasting client relationships. The firm offers a hybrid work environment and a genuine focus on work/life balance.
Responsibilities
- Review tax returns prepared by junior and senior staff for accuracy, compliance and quality (primary function)
- Prepare individual and business tax returns ranging from straightforward to complex
- Manage and mentor a team of junior and senior preparers
- Support partners in client management, tax consulting and firm operations
- Consult directly with clients on tax planning and projections
- Serve as a point of escalation for complex tax issues
- Use AI tools and current tax technology to drive team efficiency
Qualifications
- CPA license required
- 5-8 years of tax experience in a public accounting firm
- Strong review skills and the ability to manage staff and client relationships
- Proficiency in CCH Axcess, UltraTax or similar tax software; QuickBooks experience
- Excellent communication and client skills
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
- Interest in a long-term home with a clear path to partnership
