Remote Chief Estimator - Steel Erection

Our client, an established steel erection contractor, is seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead its estimating department. This is a remote position worked from home, with quarterly travel. This role owns steel erection estimating from bid invitation through award, sets bid strategy, and mentors a team of estimators while working closely with general contractors, owners, and fabricators.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the estimating team and oversee all steel erection estimates and bids
• Perform and review quantity takeoffs for structural steel, metal deck, joists, and miscellaneous metals
• Review junior estimators' work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
• Develop bid strategy and decide which projects to pursue
• Build erection pricing, including crew sizes, crane and equipment needs, sequencing, and production rates
• Review plans, specifications, and bid documents and prepare clarifications and exclusions
• Coordinate with general contractors, owners, fabricators, and suppliers through the bid process
• Lead bid reviews and handoff meetings with operations and project management
• Track bid results and keep cost data and estimating standards up to date

Qualifications

• Extensive estimating experience in structural steel erection or steel construction
• Prior experience leading or mentoring estimators
• Strong knowledge of structural steel, erection methods, cranes, rigging, and field production
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, specifications, and contract documents
• Experience with commercial and industrial project bidding
• Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software and Microsoft Excel
• Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
