Project Accountant
A growing and well-established General Contractor is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join its team. This individual will play a key role in supporting project financial operations by managing billing, accounts payable, project documentation, and subcontractor compliance. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment while collaborating closely with Project Managers, vendors, subcontractors, and the accounting team.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit progress billings and owner invoices in accordance with contract requirements
- Process AIA billings and maintain supporting documentation
- Track accounts receivable activity and assist with collection efforts as needed
- Ensure invoices and billings are completed accurately and submitted within required deadlines
- Review and process subcontractor and vendor invoices for payment
- Verify cost coding and ensure proper approvals are obtained
- Maintain subcontractor compliance records, including Certificates of Insurance, W-9s, and lien waivers
- Respond to vendor and subcontractor inquiries regarding payments and account status
- Work closely with Project Managers and accounting personnel to support project success
- Communicate professionally with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal team members
- Assist with process improvements and help maintain consistency across project accounting functions
- Provide timely support for project-related financial inquiries
Qualifications
- Previous experience in project accounting, construction accounting, or a related accounting role
- Knowledge of construction billing processes, including AIA billing preferred
- Understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, lien waivers, and subcontractor compliance documentation
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Proficiency in accounting and construction management software
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
