Original job description
Maintenance Lead – Grain & Row Crop Farm (15,000 Acres)
$70,000–$100,000/year (DOE) 🕒 Seasonal hours required during harvest
About Us
We are a large-scale, family-owned farming operation managing 15,000-20,000 acres of corn, beans, sugar beets, and wheat. With over 1 million bushels of on-farm grain storage, we operate a high-capacity, vertically integrated grain handling system - not a commercial elevator, but the same level of responsibility, skill, and care applies.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Maintenance Lead to oversee, manage, and perform preventative and responsive maintenance across our grain handling systems and farm equipment. This individual will play a critical role in keeping operations running smoothly, particularly during peak seasons like harvest. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical aptitude, a proactive mindset, and hands-on experience with grain facility or elevator operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform regular inspections, lubrication, and adjustments on grain handling equipment and conveyors.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues including belts, bearings, motors, and gearboxes.
• Maintain, clean, and service equipment to ensure reliability and safety.
• Manage preventative maintenance schedules and documentation.
• Coordinate with farm leadership to prioritize maintenance during critical periods.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and operational procedures.
• Provide leadership during high-demand seasons to keep systems running efficiently.
Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience in grain handling, elevator operations, or similar ag facility maintenance.
• Strong mechanical skills – able to repair and maintain conveyors, augers, motors, etc.
• Familiarity with preventative maintenance practices.
• Ability to lead by example and work independently.
• Willingness to work extended hours during harvest (including nights/weekends).
• CDL or willingness to obtain is a plus.
What We Offer
• Competitive pay: $70,000–$100,000 DOE
• Stable, year-round employment with clear seasonal expectations
• Work with a well-resourced, progressive farming operation
• Supportive team environment where your mechanical and operational skills are valued
