Original job description

Do you watch Random Lengths before your first cup of coffee? Do you know your SYP from your Doug Fir and your customers by first name? A well-established wholesale and distribution client is looking for a seasoned Lumber Trader to buy, sell and grow a profitable book of business. The role is fully remote, open to candidates anywhere in the US and Canada.

What You'll Do

  • Buy and sell lumber, panels and wood products with mills, wholesalers, distributors and dealers across North America
  • Build, manage and expand a book of business through prospecting and strong relationships
  • Negotiate pricing, freight and terms to protect margin and turn inventory
  • Track market trends, pricing and supply/demand using Random Lengths and other industry sources
  • Coordinate truck, rail and mixed-load logistics, including cross-border shipments
  • Apply species, grade and product knowledge to match supply with customer needs
  • Manage credit exposure and resolve claims or shipping issues quickly

What You Bring

  • Proven experience as a lumber or wood products trader, buyer or seller
  • An existing book of business is strongly preferred
  • Solid knowledge of species, grades and products (dimensional, studs, boards, panels, treated, specialty)
  • Strong market awareness and comfort acting on market reports
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated and competitive, with the drive to work independently

Compensation: $125,000-$300,000 per year (full commission, above industry-average payout)
