Original job description
Our client, an established heavy civil contractor on Colorado's Front Range, is hiring a Heavy Civil Estimator to join its Denver team. You'll build competitive bids for public and private work, including roads, highways, bridges, site development, and underground utilities.
What you'll do
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for hard-bid and negotiated projects (CDOT, municipal, and private work).
- Review plans, specs, and bid documents, and flag risks, scope gaps, and value-engineering ideas.
- Get and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes, and build self-perform pricing for labor, equipment, and materials.
- Work with operations and project managers on means and methods, schedules, and production rates.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits, and help hand awarded jobs over to the field.
What you bring
- 3+ years of heavy civil estimating experience (earthwork, paving, utilities, structures, or similar).
- Experience with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, B2W, or InEight, plus takeoff tools like Bluebeam or AGTEK.
- A solid understanding of DOT and municipal bidding.
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
What's offered
Salary of $90,000 - $120,000 plus bonus, a vehicle or vehicle allowance, full benefits, a 401(k) with match, and a long-term career path with a stable, growing contractor.
