Location: Chicago area
Looking for your next step in construction finance? A commercial general contractor in the Chicago area needs a Controller who already understands general contractor accounting and wants real growth. Over the next few years, this role is designed to prepare you for CFO-level responsibility - working alongside ownership, not just reporting to it.
What You Bring
- Hands-on construction accounting experience with a general contractor
- Fluency in job cost, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Experience supervising accounting staff or coordinating across billing, AP/AR, and payroll
- CPA preferred, not required
- Interest in moving into broader financial leadership over time
What You'll Do
- Direct day-to-day accounting operations and the period close
- Maintain accurate job cost and WIP schedules tied to project performance
- Deliver financial packages and forecasts leadership can act on
- Oversee cash management, billing cycles, payables, receivables, and payroll handoffs
- Coordinate with outside auditors, lenders, and bonding/insurance partners
- Take on increasing strategic work with ownership as you grow toward a CFO track
What We Offer
Competitive compensation and benefits, close partnership with ownership, and a genuine path toward the CFO seat within the next few years. This is a finance leadership role inside a commercial general contractor - not a corporate accounting seat disconnected from the work.
