Great projects start long before the first shovel hits the ground. They start with an Estimator who asks the right questions, understands the scope, and builds a budget the team can stand behind.
An Atlanta-area commercial general contractor is seeking an Estimator to support ground-up commercial projects from early budgeting through final bid. This opportunity is for someone who enjoys digging into the details, developing strong trade relationships, and helping shape how projects come together.
The Opportunity
You’ll work closely with preconstruction, project management, and leadership to evaluate opportunities, develop competitive estimates, and set projects up for successful execution. Your input will help guide pricing, scope decisions, and construction approaches from the earliest stages.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare estimates for ground-up commercial projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to identify scope requirements, gaps, and risks.
- Complete detailed quantity takeoffs and develop pricing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
- Solicit subcontractor proposals, evaluate coverage, and level bids to ensure complete and accurate pricing.
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and trade partners throughout the Atlanta market.
- Collaborate with project teams on constructability, logistics, scheduling considerations, and value engineering.
- Clearly communicate estimate assumptions, exclusions, allowances, and recommendations.
- Support bid presentations, scope reviews, and the transition from estimating to project operations.
- Maintain historical cost data and stay informed on market pricing and material availability.
What You Bring
- Experience estimating ground-up commercial construction projects for a general contractor.
- A strong understanding of construction methods, trade scopes, drawings, and specifications.
- The ability to develop accurate estimates at different stages of design.
- Strong subcontractor outreach, bid analysis, and scope review skills.
- Attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software, along with Excel.
- A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive compensation based on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package. Bonus opportunities, retirement benefits, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth will be discussed during the interview process.
